I changed mine over recently, including having my nsw one renewed because it as expired.
It was all handled via the website and email, and remarkably efficient (less than a week from when the request was sent).
I suggest you have a really good hunt on the Queensland website and see if you can work out how to request it online,
For the licence renewal in Australia I had it sent to my australian address, where my parents duly posts it forward by registered post. For the statement with the date of issue, I'm pretty sure the rta faxed it at my request direct to the driving department in Zurich, then posted the original.
Either way, the piece of information they need is the date when you first passed your driving test, which is not printed on the licence but can easily be requested.
