Slightly complicated one here - bear with me...

I bought a car off the guy whose job I have taken over and he has now returned to the UK. He spoke to the personnel department to find out how to do this (and they rang the Service Automobiles to check). He was advised to give me a photocopy of the Grey Card and he claims he handed the original back to the Service Automobile.

I went to get my plates today - and they will only accept the original Grey Card - and deny that anybody ever gives them a Grey Card when plates are handed in. So - no Grey Card = no plates = car not going anywhere.

Um .... Any ideas what to do now? How can I get another original one? (Personnel are having a think, but I figured somebody out there might know!)

Thanks for those links - the thing is, I cant get a replacement card as its not in my name yet - and the other guy doesn't live in Switzerland anymore. Just hoping im not left with a worthless hunk of metal....!

That is what may have happened:

Your frind sent plates and gray card by post to the Service Automobiles.
Service Automobiles canceled gray card and sent it back to your friends previous address.
Now the big question: Where is the letter?
- If sent the plates back just a few days ago it may be still at the service auto or in the postal system.
- In the mailbox at his prevoius address.
- Being forwarded to your friends current address.
- At the local post office.
- On the way back to the Service Auto.

PS: Is a stamp "Annulé / Anuliert" Stamp on the phtotocopy? If yes than your friend has/had the gray card after returning the plates.
