Car Inspections and Emissions test

We moved to Zurich 2 years ago and bought a car - we never got a notice to have the 4-year inspection and did not know that we had to get an emissions test every 2 years. Can anyone advise what needs to be done? Thanks.

A newer car does not need an emission test, needs to be B03 or B04 in the grey card, about 2001 or newer.

You will be invited for an MFK, it never runs out unless you fail a test your invited for.

Re: Car Inspections and Emissions test

There should be a round sticker presumably on one of the rear windows with the date of the next emissions test. Go to a garage before that date and ask if you still need one.

Just look in the grey card item 72, B03 or B04 & a test is not needed since the beginning of this year.
There has never been a legal requirement to have an abgas sticker on the car.

Re: Car Inspections and Emissions test

Modern cars with onboard diagnostics are now exempt from abgas tests ....... as per fmf's posts above.

Re: Car Inspections and Emissions test

I have a question as well about car inspection.

Am I required to do a revision of the car if I want to sell it. The car is quite old (from 2002) and the last revision was in 2012.

thanks a lot.

You don't have to, but it will make it easier to sell if you have just passed a MFK test.

You probably don't need the emissions test.

Without a fresh MFK you will get very little for a 12 year old car, you don't say what it is but assume 0-1000 CHF, with an inspection 500-3000.

An inspection costs 56 CHF in ZH it's probably worth doing, what is the car?

+1 for this. You'll have a much better chance of selling (at a price close to what you want) with fresh service and fresh MFK.

Hahaha probably 60% of what the seller wants or 30-40% of what a dealer sells the same car for.

Re: Car Inspections and Emissions test

I need to do an emissions test. Where is a good place around Basel to get it done quickly and cheaply? Any places you drop in without an appointment? Thanks in anticipation.
