Basel- finding a good location to change tires DIY

Hi All,

I know it's an odd question, but I really need your help.

I'd like to change to winter tires by myself. I have no private parking, and I don't wanna change them in a street parking where I can get hit by a passing vehicle.

Is it allowed to change tires in public places like school parking lots, car wash? I'm actually in Reinach BL, so if anyone have a good idea what's appropriate, then I would appreciate an answer.

its only about 12 euro at a garage to have them swapped but if I were you and had no where to do it find an empty isolated car park and do it there or top floor parking of the rhine centre/marktkauf.

Thanks for the help guys. The garage gave me an appointment in more than two weeks, when it will probably get too cold.
I've decided to use the parking lot of the open air swimming pool.

thought CHF120 was a standard charge for 4 wheels, have noticed you quoted in Euro, was that per tire or for all 4 across the border?

120 chf .. you must be talking of change the tyres - take tyre off the wheel and then put winter tyre back on the wheel.... I hope !

there may have been some confusion as everyone has mentioned tyres and not wheels.

Re: Basel- finding a good location to change tires DIY

CHF120- is the price you pay if you go to a main dealer and get ripped off.

You can get your wheels changed (with very friendly service) by a local garage for less. I use Garage René Huber GmbH, who charges about CHF40- to change all four wheels. He's just behind the Ikea in Pratteln. You'll need to make reservations, as he's only got space for one car at a time.

If you don't mind driving across the border to Weil-am-Rhein, the ATU there will change them without an appointment for EUR3.75 a wheel. http://www.atu.de/pages/werkstatt/reifenwechsel.html

ATU will change your tires for such a price but there is no chance to be able to do it without appointment. Simply by going there will end up wasting your time unless its a not a busy period which is not the case at the beg of winter or at the beg of the summer.

Re: Basel- finding a good location to change tires DIY

atu currently has a 2 week appointment waiting time.

if you buy tyres to be fitted they told me come early in the morning and then come back in the late afternoon and it should be possible, but sometimes not.

the secret is know somewhere that isn't too busy and not well known

Hey, don't shoot the messenger.

I'm just reporting what's written on their own website:

Quote:
Radwechsel bei A.T.U

I've never had a problem, but then again I've been in Switzerland long enough that I don't do anything without making an appointment!
