| | Low-cost airlines in Switzerland?
Why aren't there low-cost flies from-to Switzerland? The only ones are from Basel's airport which, guess what, is in France...

But I guess it depends where you are flying to.
Also, in Europe, taking a larger dog by air is expensive. You might be better off driving..... or giving your dog a break too and either getting a dog-sitter or finding a good kennel in your area. Travelling by air is stressful for animals that end up in the cargo hold and I would avoid making a habit of it. Just my 2c (as a dog owner).

As has been said, Air Berlin has been flying from/to Zurich for years now. Just try out the link - you don't have to wait till May. I really wouldn't recommend crating up your dog and making him/her fly - I've done it twice and would never do it again unless I really had to.

you can ask your vet.
he gave me some pills to calm him down..so during the journey he sleeps.
it depents on how big your dog is and how many hours is the trip.
he made two flights really unstressful and he was absolute cool with it.
i hope this helps you.
i agree for the car. i also talk about journeys that you can t avoid an airoplane.
as for hotels and everything..i think he is happier waiting two or three hours to see me than weeks.

The vet advised AGAINST pills in case the dog vomited and suffocated. The flight back was from Houston to Paris, where they "lost" him for 1 entire day..... As I said, I wouldn't recommend it.

How many of the low budget airlines are able to be so low budget is that they fly in and out of small cheaper airports (Hence when you flying into Hamburg with Ryan Air, you fly into Lübeck which is about 45-60 min away). There aren't really any of those little airports in Switzerland and the airport taxes are relatively high compared to other countries/airports.

The dog's handler would give him some calming medication for the trip beforehand, and the dog would survive the flight without problems. He always seemed pretty happy at the games. He also led a pretty long life.

Not so bad and definitely comparable to the other "real" low cost :-)
Cheers,

Vets don't like examining a dog that has been tranquilised as it could mask other symptoms.

Over Christmas I brought my nephew over, and the flight was nearly 100 Euro cheaper with Swiss.
I checked about 3 times, because I thought there had to be some sort of mistake!

Out of all the options (LX, BA, EZ (ZRH and BSL), FR (FDH), AB and 1 or 2 others, Swiss were the cheapest.
FR and EZ might be low cost (read crap service) but they often ain't lower fares. Not any more.
