Hope you have a sign on your garage door saying no parking in front etc for xxx customers.
Not yet, but we plan to get one. Either a plain no parking sign or one that states only our car reg number can park here. It'll need to be removable though because any workmen we need to come to the house also have to park in front of our garage. Otherwise, they'd have to park in the one lane road and that would block everyone's access!

Nobody will police the usage of your parking space expect you. No need to be removable.

If you want that offenders get fined (on your request only) you have to get a ban/ Interdiction formelle sign from the district court, just like your neighbour.

I was thinking of some of the workmen who just turn up (my boiler maintence man for example) rather than making an appointment beforehand. I wouldn't want them not using our space while doing their work, but seeing yellow lines on one side and a no parking sign on ours might leave them wondering what the heck they're supposed to do with their vehicles.

Don't worry, I'm making notes whenever anyone who shouldn't parks in our space. Might need it for any future court proceedings.

Re: "Parking" dispute - what happens next?

Right, having waded through the judgement using both my translation program and google this is what the judge had to say in the summing up.

We live close to the other building and are accused of crossing the boundary line while manoeuvring our car. He can't objectively see how this hampered in any way the neighbour's use of his property rights. He can't discern what hinderance any manoeuvring did. Finally he can't see how this brief intrusion is likely to worry the neighbour, even if he has sensitive data regarding employees, suppliers and customers stored at his business. It's clear our neighbour grants excessive importance to our "pranks" (incartades). It's therefore with good reason that the Lieutenant denounced the case initially. The appeal is dismissed and costs are borne by our neighbour.

Not happy about his use of the word incartades though. Makes us sound as if we're baiting our neighbour deliberately.

The neighbour has 30 days to appeal it up to the Federal court in Lausanne. No idea whether he will or not, but we're due to go on holiday in about a month's time. Would it be a good idea, just before we go, to write to the court in Lausanne to let them know we'll be away from ? to ?, so could they take that into consideration if expecting a response from us to any further allegations? What we don't want to find is that when we come back there's been a letter/judgement that we haven't had an opportunity to refute due to having to reply by a certain date.

Re: "Parking" dispute - what happens next?

"Incartades" can also mean "misdemeanours", so I think the judge is just acknowledging that crossing over the boundary line is technically wrong (but that your neighbour is an arse for caring).

Ah, thanks for that lucy_who. Neither translation program came up with any alternatives to pranks.

Google translate has misdemeanours as an option. It's often weirdly good at odd words like that. It has a surprisingly extensive range of animal names too, as I discovered in the zoology museum last week.

Hi Medea Fleecestealer

good luck with not getting appealed or further entangled with your neighbor.

Can I ask, did you get any help from any sort of legal insurance?

I'm curious about whether these insurances work or to what extent they are advantageous.

Thanks

Yeah, it seems to be pretty good at actually making sensible sentences. Mind you, the program I have on my machine is over 10 years old now and it does come up with some very hilarious translations sometimes.

No, we don't have legal insurance and this hasn't involved any lawyers - yet.

Yes, my favourite from my translation program is along the lines of "please put the gunpowder into the appropriate compartment of your washing machine".

Re: "Parking" dispute - what happens next?

Mélusine, thank you for your offer. One of the other EF members has been helping me with any stuff I don't understand language-wise, but the offer is appreciated. It's one of the major things I like about this forum, the willingness of people to help others, be it with understanding the lingual quirks, offering to help with moving stuff, etc.

Yet another odd comment from our neighbour in his latest letter to the court mentioned that he has "very sensitive data" stored on the premises as he caters to a niche market. Well and good, but I can't see what that has to do with us crossing his boundary briefly.

Nothing, he is just being pretentious; he likely got one or two good beatings in by fellow soldiers when doing his national service.

Re: "Parking" dispute - what happens next?

Just thought I'd add a little update as I see new tenants are moving stuff into his rental apartment today. Wonder how long he/she/they will last. The last lady moved in around Christmas time and moved out beginning of May because ... Yes, you guessed it. She had problems with him over parking her car in the yellow parking spaces. Pretty sure she had one of his "official" parking stickers in her car window too so no idea what the problem was. But evidently she got fed up with him over it and moved out.

The new ones don't look like they've started off well - their pickup truck and trailer are completely over the parking spaces. Wonder if he'll issue them with a ticket for it.
