Re: Dartford Crossing - toll payment changes from October 2014

I have just received a 96chf bill from epc collections (letter sent from Sweden) based upon a crossing I did in July. I actually did pay the original fee albeit about 24 hours late at that time, so I did not adhere to their rules.

What’s the bottom line? Should I pay it or will there be enforcement in Switzerland? Will I end up with a Betreibung?

Re: Dartford Crossing - toll payment changes from October 2014

Just FYI to this date I never had follow up on the first demand for payment when I misssd payment by accident. Don’t know if it’s the same firm chasing, but it wasn’t a UK based or swiss based company doing the chasing so I politely ignored them.

As you did actually pay - if you have prof of payment I would send it and tell them that’s it.

I doubt they have any chance to enforce though maybe others have recent experience.

Re: Dartford Crossing - toll payment changes from October 2014

Consultation is on for the proposed 3rd Thames Crossing.

"A new road linking Kent and Essex would almost double capacity across the River Thames, Highways England has said.

The route of the new road tunnel under the river would also almost halve the northbound crossing times at the Dartford Crossing, the agency said.

A 10-week public consultation on the latest designs for the Lower Thames Crossing has opened.

It is claimed the scheme will be the largest road upgrade project since the building of the M25.

The planned new 14.5 mile (23km) long three-lane dual carriageway would connect the M2 near Rochester and the M25 in Essex between North and South Ockendon and include a 2.4 mile (3.8km) tunnel between Gravesend and Tilbury."

If you're in that area during the consultation period might be worth having a look. Unfortunately we've just missed it.

Re: Dartford Crossing - toll payment changes from October 2014

Hi,

We have just received a fine in the post for missing this payment. Didn't notice the signs at the time (late Jan) potentially due to tiredness and my first time driving this route. The letter appears to have been sent from Sweeden and is looking for something like CHF 115 or half that if paid in the next 14 days.

How has your situation played out re: ignoring this fine?

Thanks

Hi

I received 2 letters soon after and nothing else since.

If i ever hear anything at this point (it’s years now) i would be amazed. I didn’t think about it till your post.

Maybe the protocols are different for more recent fines but sounds like the same company. If it happened again to me - I would still ignore, and ignore.

All the best

Re: Dartford Crossing - toll payment changes from October 2014

Necroing, but there are changes being made and basically they sorta f***ed up.

"Motorists crossing the Thames between Kent and Essex are facing confusion over a new payment system.

An email to those registered for automatic payments at the Dartford Crossing said a new system would come into force on Friday.

It instructs motorists that they need to update their payment card from 28 July or they may be liable for a non-payment fine if they make the crossing.

However, the Dart Charge website says the site is unavailable until Sunday.

In a statement, Dart Charge said: "Account holders will need to re-validate their payment cards from 28 July 2023.

"If no action is taken crossings will not be automatically paid due to invalid card payment details, which may result in a penalty charge notice (PCN) being issued."

However when customers visit the website to update their details they get the message: "The service is currently unavailable due to essential maintenance which is expected to complete by the afternoon of Sunday 30 July."

It advises the Dart Charge contact centre will remain open, but will not be able to access customer accounts or take payments during the maintenance period.

It goes on: "For any crossings made on 27, 28, 29 and 30 July, customers will have until midnight 31 July to pay."

Motorists will not be able to pay the charge at Payzones in shops and Post Offices.

Helen Watkinson, Head of Road User Charging at National Highways, told BBC Radio Kent customers would need to revalidate their payment card from Sunday afternoon.

"From midnight last night up until Sunday afternoon, users won't be able to access the website. As soon as they can they will need to re-enter their card details so we can take automatic payments from them in the way that we usually do.

"For pay as you go customers we won't be able to take payments until they've made this change."

She said the service would not be available over the weekend.

"We've extended the timeframe for payment for pay as you go customers and non account holders so they have until midnight on 1 August to pay."

She said the date from which customers could validate their card details had changed since the emails went out to customers on 17 July."

Way to go!

Strange. I registered for pay as you go in June this year, but received no email.

Re: Dartford Crossing - toll payment changes from October 2014

If you're looking to pay or update your details be aware there are long queues to get on the website atm. Took me over 2 hours today to get on. Needed to add my card details in again so make sure you have those to hand just in case.
