| | Recommendations for English-speaking optician in Zürich
Hi all
OH and I are thinking about getting our UK driving licences converted to CH ones. Can anyone recommend an English-speaking optician in Zürich where we can get the eye-tests done?
Cheers

Why English speaking?
Just show the form and they will know what to do. It is a standard test.

Assuming that it's similar to a UK eye test, they'll ask me which side is clearer/fuzzier/redder/greener/whatever through various lenses. I'd like to know what they're asking me so I can answer correctly and not be declared blind.

Any chance a friend can go with you to translate? It literally takes no more than 5 minutes. |

I've only been here a few weeks so I haven't got any German-speaking friends here yet. Hence the need for an English-speaking optician.
Any recommendations?

I went to Koch Optik on Bahnhofstrasse when I got my license changed over to CH one. It's not a standard eye test. It is slightly different, basically so that they can fill in a few boxes on a form and stamp it.
Hope that helps! | This user would like to thank Lyndsay82 for this useful post: | |

Just to resurrect this thread...
I also need to get the driving license swap form eye test sorted. Any updated recommendations for english speaking opticians in Zurich (I work just off Paradeplatz)? And any clues on how much such a rubber stamping of official form costs?
Regards
Ian

There is a Fielmann branch right down Bahnhofstrasse towards the station; the eye test for the driving license is 15.- or something and takes 10m. I did there; no fuss.

I also went to Visilab at HB. They spoke English. I can't recall if there was a fee for the test? It wasn't expensive or time consuming though, because I would remember that!

Quick update, went to Fielman on Bahnhofstrasse.
Was served by (probably) the same English lady as the previous poster, plus a very nice young optician who spoke perfectly good english.
I had to wait 5 mins max, test took less than 10 mins, and cost me the never before heard of Swiss bargain price of 10.50 CHF!
Form duly stamped, then off to the Zurich equivalent of DVLA for the swap.
Thanks for the help and advice, all.
Kind regards
Ian

Fielmann is a big store, like a small shopping center on its own; vision tests (Sehtest) are indicated at 1st floor, but actually I have been taken to 2nd. Just ask around when you enter, they will call you back in 5'.
Thank you all for the suggestions |
