| | Swiss Speeding Ticket - Pay from UK?
Hello,
Today I received a speeding ticket for Speeding in Lucern/Bern for a Hire Car from Avis Budget Group. The car was picked up in Basel.
I was going at 130 kmph on 120 kmph and the fine is for 60CHF.
The speeding offence was on 28th May. The speeding ticket fully in German from switzerland was dated 2nd June. I received the letter here in UK on 24th June.
The car hire company has charged me 50CHF administrative charge.
I would like to pay the 60CHF fine immediately from UK. How can I pay my fine here from UK?
There is a orange Einzahlung Giro attached at the bottom of the speeding ticket. Can I take that slip to a bank here in UK and pay the fine?
Is there anyway to pay the fine online?
on top of the speeding ticket there is:
GK-NR/Ref-Nr: and Dok-Nr. I believe these are reference numbers I need to use when I'm paying the fine? or just vehicle registration number is enough?
Please advise as I would like to pay the fine within 30 days and it is already 24 days based on letter dated 2nd June.
many thanks

Sorry that I have no direct experience here but if it is a Giro form then the Post Office should be able to handle it.

Is there an IBAN number on the information? If you have an IBAN you can pay it in the bank or by internet banking!

If you put SFr 60,-- in an envelope and post this with the orange Einzahlung Giro, I will pay it into the post for you.
I will PM / E-mail you my name and address. Post it soon, I am on holiday 4th July. Post takes 2 days from UK.

That is beyond anyone would go to help out. But I do not want to be a burden on anyone for anything. The fine is my responsibility and I will have to find a way to pay as per what is available to me. It is very good to know there are good people in this world who are willing to help out.
I will take it to my local post office and ask them if i can pay.
There is account number in the fine ticket; i will see if i can pay via online bank.
I will call the number on the speeding ticket and see if anyone will help.
I have to find a way of paying this one way or other.
Many thanks for your assistance.

I personally believe that what they've given you makes it not possible to simply pay the fine.
That is of course if Switzerland and its bilaterals with the EU cover this: http://ec.europa.eu/transport/newsle...be_memo_en.htm
If you pay with an IBAN, there is little to no way for you to be sure that your payment will be made in reference to the offence.....

The IBAN identifies the creditor, the creditor's bank and account number.
The Swiss orange payment slip for Banks with reference number ( BESR, Bank Einzahlungsschein mit Referenznummer) are used by the Swiss post for payments to bank accounts. The Reference number assigns the payment with the creditor's accounting, normally identifying the debitor and the reason for the payment (see no. 6 below). http://www.einzahlungsscheine.ch/ select BESR |

Next time you should speed in Zurich City where you can pay your fine by credit card.
More serious. You have do act quickly as you only have 30 days to pay the fine. If you miss the deadline the case will go to a judge. A much higher fine plus court cost will be the result.
I do not know from which canton's Police you got the fine. But if there is no instruction how to pay by bank transfer you should contact the police yourself. IBAN plus what reference number has to be cited as payment reason. You may also upload a scan/photo of the document.

Bern Police: https://www.police.be.ch/police/de/i...s/kontakt.html
Phone: +41 31 634 41 11
Or whatever phone number can be found on the letter.

But send it soon, as the fine has to be paid into the post on or before Monday 30th June, so that the money is on their account before the 2nd July.

Not surprisingly as 2011/82/EU is based on Article 87(2) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union. This treaty is the "constitution" of the EU.

Contact details should be on the letter. Contact them first to tell them of your dilema. They will likely give you payment details over the phone too (or at least an IBAN).
To be honest fines that I've received have usually had bank details either on the payment slip or the covering letter.
If you can, consider scanning the letter and posting it here, minus personal details - and likely someone will point you in the right direction.

One of the problems is that UK banks are still operating in the stone age and find it very difficult to make international bank transfers. You need to get the IBAN of whoever sent you the payment slip. I would have expected it to be printed somewhere on the documentation you received if it isn't on the payment slip. Otherwise you'll need to contact the source and get it from them.
After that you'll probably have to contact your UK bank and ask how to do this. One would have hoped that in this day and age a UK bank would have finally worked out how to do this, but it may be hard work (I have a cousin who works at Nat West who couldn't work it out, I ended up paying the fine for him).
One alternative might be to contact the fining authority and see if they don't take credit cards - some do.
I doubt a UK bank will be able to do anything with a Swiss payment slip.

Many thanks for all your comments.
I called the number on top of the Speeding Ticket (Polizei, Basel-Landschaft) and I told them everything about it and how only 5 days is left to make a payment.
They asked for GK-NR reference number, checked the system and advised me; they have got my UK address and they have sent me new invoice with my details along with international bank transfer details for me to pay the fine.
They got my address from Car Hire company.
I confirmed my address with them and they got my correct address. So I don't have to rush to make the payment. I have to wait for the new invoice and pay the invoice as per instructions on it.
That is good. Now I will pay it directly to their bank account as per details I will receive in the new invoice.
I have been driving for 15 years around the world (US, Canada, Most of Europe, Asia) and this is the first time I got speeding ticket in 15 years of driving. There is always first time aye!
I strictly follow speed limits. When I first landed in Switzerland and within the first 30 minutes of driving the hire car I got this speeding ticket by the looks of things. It must have been the MPH vs KMPH speed that I drive took time to settle in.
Anyway; i will let you all know how the new invoice looks like and pay the fine accordingly.

Thanks for coming back to share your feedback.
