Failed 2 MFK's - whats the score

My dooer-upper has failed its mfk twice now, oil leaks, I didn't have time to fix the latest leak and get it back to the test center as I was on holiday so we deregistered the car.

Now we may have got hold of the wrong end of the stick here, but we think they said it has to pass an mfk BEFORE we can register it again, is this the case? kinda hard to get it to a garage and the test center without a license plate.

To fix the latest oil leak I have to remove the gearbox, so this is a bit beyond fix at home

Re: Failed 2 MFK's - whats the score

If you failed twice, then yes you need to MFK before you register.

To get it to mechanic, borrow dealer plates (or have the mechanic collect it).

Likewise for the test.

If you had de-registered before the test date, then you could have registered before doing the MFK, I have done this in the past.

If you had de-registered after the first fail, then perhaps also, but I'm not sure.

it wasn't leaking after the 1st test, developed a new leak between them, all the rubber seals have corroded so keeps springing new leaks

I have the British Racing Green estate version of that sitting outside my house! Power bulge on the bonnet and everything, didn't think anyone else was mad enough to own (and pay through the nose to maintain) one....

@bigblue2, do you know about these people ?
http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/?gclid=C...FVIPtAodSn8ApA

We've managed to source spare parts from them that were impossible to find anywhere else.
Postage to Europe wasn't too bad either, we have things sent to our place in France though, rather than go through the hassle of CH customs.

Thank you. Just might need to take you up on that, yesterday Rover just squeaked through her anti-pol test thanks to a friendly mechanic who's mastered the art of pressing the buttons at just the right moment, but needs work before the visite (road-test thingy), which must be due soon.
I think ours needs most of the rubbery bits replacing again too as There's always a leak somewhere, sigh, but I leave that to the men-folk. I just sit in it and get chauffeured about.

My heart belongs to my classic Mini... one of six, they breed you know.

You can also get day plates for the purpose of taking it in for the test. They give plates out for more than 72 hours. You sign the form saying that the vehicle is road worthy. (I know this is an old thread. Am looking for the thread on how to get dealer plates... Found this old gem.)

Dealer plates are not a trivial exercise. For Kt. Zurich see here:

This is the tricky bit.

"fünf jährige Erfahrung in der Automobilbranche oder - ohne Fähigkeitszeugnis aus der Automobilbranche - eine mindestens sechs jährige Erfahrung in der Automobilbranche vorweisen. Der Nachweis ist mit Kopien von Fähigkeitszeugnis und Arbeitszeugnissen zu erbringen."

The other stuff should be OK as we are renting a business unit that was used as a garage previously. I guess the plate needs to be issues by the Kanton the unit is in, not where the holder lives...
