How long does it take to sell a car on EF?

Hi guys,

We are thinking to sell our car, but it's still not clear what's better to do: via EF or just a direct trade-in in garage. The criterion is: price/time.. Any ideas on the average selling time at EF?

Thanks.

Work out what you think is a fair price for it. Then halve it and it might sell within a month or so.

EF is not a great place to sell cars but ads do provide some entertainment for the bored petrol heads.

Re: How long does it take to sell a car on EF?

If the price is right and your ad contains all the important information and good photos it could sell pretty quickly. It also depends on what sort of car it is.

I sold a car within a week on here without any hassles at all so it is possible. I priced it a little bit higher than I was prepared to sell it for to allow for a bit of negotiation but still a good price ( ie not stupidly high).

Re: How long does it take to sell a car on EF?

The 2 main reasons (well one) cars don't sell on here are

1. People look up the price of similar cars on autoscout, they pick the one with 1/3 the km and every option added, from a dealer, with fsh and new mfk and warranty then add a few k and think that's what there base spec crap wagon is worth

2. They get a price off a dealer and double it and stick it on here

Just for laughs they state they have a dealer price and need to sell within a week as they are leaving the country

Then get arsy when they get ripped apart.

It's all fun

If it's cheap it'll sell

Why not use a site which actually specializes in trading (cars)?
- autoscout24.ch
- car4you.ch
- olx.ch
- gratis-inserate.ch
- ricardo.ch
- ...

Sure, post it on EF as well, but why narrow your chances by posting it ONLY here?

Autoscout and car4you are not free but if your car is priced appropriately it will sell. I think it is always nice to advertise here first but then you risk all kinds of commentary which you will not be subjected to on the car sites. That is my experience.

We sold ours very quickly but the price was low.

Look on Facebook, I think there is a buy and sell group for your area.

I sold 3 vehicles, 1 in 24 hours (New MFK that day) . OK the price was about 35% of those for sale on ricardo. So priced dirt cheap will sell quickly.

Re: How long does it take to sell a car on EF?

At time of writing you have made 5 posts on EF, you need to do another 5 posts before you can post something to sell.

Either reply to this thread &/or search other threads to put some more posts.

One of my siblings once got a car cheap in the month of February, as he said there were not many buyers in that month. He made his offer to the seller, phoned back a few days later & they seller said no-one else had contacted him & sold it to him.

Have you asked a garage what they will offer you?

Watch out about selling on EF. You'll get lots of people showing interest who never turn up to appointments.

You're in Lausanne, and although there is an EF presence in that part of the world (down to Geneva), I would guess that the majority of prospective EF buyers are going to be somewhere between Basel and Zurich - so it needs to be a special car and/or special price to tempt someone to spend a couple of hours on the motorway.

..... and you've got one 'v' too many in your username.

Re: How long does it take to sell a car on EF?

Advertise it on EF first; it doesn't cost anything and if the price is ridiculous or the ad lacks important information some friendly EF members will let you know.
Then you can adjust the price and/or add the missing information and put it on autoscout24 as well.

Wherever you advertise; if the price is right it will move quickly.

I sold mine in a day. Just be fair.

Re: How long does it take to sell a car on EF?

Sold mine on autoscount within a few days of advertising it. Had around 10 people contact me who were interested and about 6 of these people came to view the car. Approximately half of the people who contacted me were bottom feeders offering a ridiculously low price. The other half were serious buyers.

The advice in the posts above is good: advertise the car widely, price it realistically and include plenty of good photos.

Good luck!

I just posted an ad here. :) If no interest I will put it on Auto Scout.

I'd suggest you place an ad in http://www.autoscout24.ch. Here in EF you will only get your sell so criticized that you will end up wanting to give it out for free (maybe this is the goal of some EF-ers?). So to answer your OP:

How long does it take to sell a car on EF? with your original ask price, a lifetime.
How long does it take to get your sell heavily depreciated on EF? 5 minutes.

try a PX & you will get less......

vvd 12.01.2015 17:35

Ok, thanks. We'll see soon how it works in the French part :)
btw, what's wrong with two 'v' in the username?

Not yet, but will definitely do it soon. I guess the price of garage and EF would be approximate equal.

With these conditions you can sell a car even on the street to a random person. I guess 10-15% less than market price is still acceptable, but not 50%.

What was your fair discount?

Market price is the price a car sells for, not the price of cars advertised for sale, the difference is usually at least 35% as many people selling cars found out the hard way.

Re: How long does it take to sell a car on EF?

There was no discount, I got what I asked for, which was a fair price.
