SBB Montly Pass From Basel SBB to Zurich HB

Does the option exist for a monthly pass (starting contract in March for 6 months so don't want to buy full year pass in case contract not extended)? In case anyone is wondering I did visit the SBB website and tried to put in the information in the "buy monthly pass" section but it kicked me over to the "year" pass page and then quoted 3200 CHF for the entire year.

Any advise is greatly appreciated.

I think you can buy the GA monthly. Not worth getting a more specific pass as it will cost about the same.

thanks for the reply... noticed that the SBB site does not allow you to get quotes from future months (thats why it kept kicking me to the annual pass page)

did a trail from Basel SBB to Zurich HB and it cost 375 CHF which is kind of what I expected. I've heard of the myth that people with L permits are able to purchase half-fare Monthly GAs. Any tips on how to go about that would be fantastic.

Re: SBB Montly Pass From Basel SBB to Zurich HB

GA monthly is the way to go. I remember when I worked in Basel I went to SBB at Zurich HB and asked for the best alternative and they sold me zone based pass after 6 months I found how stupid I was trusting them when someone told me about the Monthly GA It was 50% cheaper.

I went the and complained and they refunded me. I got something like 570chf back.

So I was Switzerlanded then Unswitzerlanded

They said I would only get 3 month back but when $$ came back it was for 6 7 months so I learned although some are friendly the SBB might not be trusted

Right, but it's still a yearly GA, however with monthly payments. You need to keep it for four months minimum.

Caution: If you lose the GA card you need to pay for a full year!

"Nice" fairy tale. There is no zone based pass between Zurich and Basel.

Nonsense again. Your GA is personal and registered in the system with your photo.

Yes, you can get a replacement if you lose it, but if you lose it you are then locked into paying for the full duration of the GA.

The reason being is that otherwise you could easily report your GA as lost or stolen, get the replacement, and then decide you no longer need it, hand back the replacement GA, get the money back, but still carry on travelling on the original GA card which was never lost or stolen in the first place.

Akowalew
as far as I know, the arithmetic of year-long vs month-long GA is worth doing.

A year-long GA costs less than 12 x a month-long GA.
If you buy a GA for a whole year, and then later change your mind, you can sell the year-long GA back to the SBB. Minus a fee, you get a pro rata refund.

Also, if you live with a family member, under the same roof, they can then have cheaper GAs if you already have one, so that averages out at a lower cost per person.

You haven't got a clue, have you?

You should have quoted the whole paragraph... duh

But you purchase a yearly card because you intend to use it for the whole year, don't you?! Or did you intend to abuse it from the beginning?

And thanks for the flags! LOL

Trying to wrap my head around this... So you support that he was right, and yet you're still trying to argue somehow?
