Don't know who was speeding - what do we do for the fine?

Anyone know what one is supposed to do if one doesn't know who was driving when a speeding ticket was given?

I'd like to pay the 20CHF and clear it but we have no way of knowing and don't remember who was driving at a particular time 6 weeks ago.

I mean we're confident of it being 1 of 2 people, but we have no idea which of us.

Can anyone point to the rules regarding this? I can't honestly declare that it was me that was actually driving even if I wanted to simply put my name down.

Pay the 20chf - and get 10chf from the other person??

Why do you have to put down a name? Surely you just got a bill to pay

Just pay it, it won't go on your licence, the fine's not big enough.

I believe it is the registered owner of the car that is responsible, unless they can prove who was driving it - and that person pays the fine. If they don`t then the car owner has to pay.

Be happy it`s only SFr20! No big deal, is it?

You've got no choice but to refuse to pay then, on these grounds. Write them a letter saying you're not paying because you can't remember who was driving and thats the end of it.

I'm sure it'll do the trick.

I agree with Smoky. "registered owner of the car that is responsible".
Pay it unless you want an admin charge on top of the fine.

Yes Mikers that will work. The police will then come round with the photo and take the driver's details, then the correct driver will get fined by the court. It won't be cheap though.

Don't forget to mention the reason you can't remember was you and your friend were really drunk that night. They appreciate and respect honesty.

Just pay and ask the other person to give you half- if s/he refuses, then never let them drive your car again! But surely it is 20CHF each- never ever heard of a speeding fine for less than 40CHF.

Presumably it was a rental. It's the only reason I could imagine for asking the name of the driver for such a tiny fine.

Re: Don't know who was speeding - what do we do for the fine?

I've had a 20CHF fine, have to admit I was surprised by it, the camera flashed as I was changing lanes, so I wondered if it was a case of two cars in the picture and they couldn't distinguish which car caused the flash so split the fine between the two?? In my book that is a bit far fetched but couldn't think of any other reason.

The alternative is that Canton Lucern has a different scale??

Perhaps?? OH has twice got a 40CHF fine for 1km! (6km over, minus the 5 km franchise)- he was furious. I always thought it was the absolute minimum fine.

Just tell the bizzies that you don't know who was driving because you were all too drunk to remember.

20 chf is a 1kph (after tolerance) fine on the autobahn. I have a stack of them.

Nope. OH got one for being 1km/h over on that stretch of roadworks with a 60 limit in Serrieres before the new tunnel opened.
He was really peed off as he drove that road every day to get to work but he was caught driving back from holiday. He'd obviously got out of the habit while we were away.

Posting the same question in two different threads doesn't really help, does it?
