Recommended cars for sale

A thread to provide details of anything interesting/good value that I find.

First up: IBA (AS list) is advertising brand new grey-imported Volvo XC70 D5 Summums for 49,900chf. They only come with a 2 year warranty and no service pack, but that is approximately 30,000chf cheaper than a Swiss model.

Next up: Auto Stoessel (AS list) in Volketswil offers good service at the bottom end of the market (non-English speaking though). Unlike many Swiss garages his business seems to be based on turnover of stock rather than high prices. I have bought from him and I know another forum member has too. He tends to freshly service and mfk cars. He has a Touran in at the moment which looks pretty good.

Re: Recommended cars for sale

Over the next 2 weekends a vast number of the big main dealers are having their spring events. There will tend to be presentations, entertainment for children (and big children), plenty of new stock on show and they will be looking to do a great deal of volume. (This is their busy time).

Emil Frey @ Safenwil: http://www.emilfrey.ch/de/safenwil/n...er-salon-2015/ (27-29th March) (Emil Frey Racing will be showing their 2015 car on Sunday - drivers and team will all be present - quite a few speak english!!)
Heidegger in Triesen: http://www.heidegger.li/ (21st March)
Auto Centre Sud @ Zurich: http://www.das-autocenter.ch/aid=3.h...ngsausstellung (21-22nd)
AMAG (VW Group) @ Dubendorf: http://www.amag.ch/amagch/corp/en/Ga...t-zuerich.html (English!!!)
http://www.amag.ch/amagch/corp/de/Ga...ws-events.html (21-22nd)
Mercedes @ Oerlikon: http://www.gruppe.mercedes-benz.ch/c...HN/events.html (21-22nd)

(Double check your local dealer for details)

This means a few things: If you are comparing a couple of brands you might be able to play one off against the other, any vehicles pre-ordered (IE specced in a way they think will sell) should be had with a better than ordered discount - double check if you are buying! AND finally discounts on ordered cars will be lower.

This also means that over the next 3 months the used market will see a great deal of movement. First up volumes - there will be lots of nearly new cars coming onto the market - depressing their values - increasing the number sold. This in turn puts more 6-8 year old cars onto the market (arguably a sweet spot in terms of used cars in Switzerland). And then finally the cars sold to buy the level up will also flood on the market - so 11 year old cars - which need a fresh MFK.

Re: Recommended cars for sale

today i saw an "interesting" offer. by that i mean the car itself , the price and description suggested it was probably a cowboi trying to flog a scrapper...........

http://www.gratis-inserate.ch/anzeige/auto/40042618/

my enquiry about whether it had a swiss registration was answered with the anticipated : "no, but all documents are available".

my next request for photos of the chassis was amazingly immediately answered with this photo.

anyone looking for a tidy classic cabriolet?

Re: Recommended cars for sale

Today's "DK Random Autoscout" search has thrown up:

Something soft with only 88k on the clock. A bit of a punt - but for 800chf you'd be the coolest person at Roter Fabrik.

Perhaps you'd like to go topless with this retro-classic for 1600chf inkl fresh MFK. You too can be Makepeace

This won't set any pulses racing but it would be a good short term for anyone needing spacious and cheap transportation.

I've not paid attention to these in recent years to have a good feel for the price - but it is a piece of automotive magic. I drove one 15 years ago and the brute force from the acceleration is something special. As a garage he does seem to have some quite interesting stock.

Interestingly, I was looking at this ad on autoscout just yesterday as I was wondering why so few are left. They used to make really nice cars.

Once Citroens get old they become cool/fashionable. I'd warrant a BX or CX would be no less reliable than any other mid-80s car if you were to use it as a semi-classic. No idea of the condition of the BX though.

A good CX Kombi - in 25GTi form fetches good money.

306 GTI with the wrong badge! Not bad for 2.5k - just watch how much you trailbrake on the downhill!

Re: Recommended cars for sale

What about this one. It now costs only 40% of the original price and has a very high potential to become a valuable collectable in the future. On top of that, it's an insanely fast car.

Have you seen: 2006 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S [Zurich]?

Yes, it cost more... and it's not red but it's a 997...

I can give you my opinion - the badge is missing off the back, this could be innocent but could be that it wasn't replaced after an accident.

The wheels look wrong too, but maybe they're just the winter wheels and the proper ones are wrapped in summer tyres and will come with the car?

Other than that, there's no detail or information at all in the ad so I'd want to be sure the mileage was genuine and to know if the usual work to try and prevent a catastrophic engine failure has been done.

For a red car it looks in good condition. (Seriously red cars can age badly if the paintwork is well maintained).

Check for any engine work.
Decent spec
Looks bit bland on the outside
996 is not a "pretty" 911 - the 4s does look better - and the Turbo better than the GT3

Re: Recommended cars for sale

I've lost count of the number times people have asked for a practical 4wd 7-seater.

It looks like I have found a solution

Tragically it looks like they aren't available in Switzerland

That is ace, although I'm not sure I believe the engine longevity claim as it appears to be a DOHC unit with coil-on-plug ignition, and of Russian descent...

I want one. Uber cool, in such a completely uncool way.

Actually I prefer the combi version - room for a full complement of skis, boots and bags in the back...

Not sure - but it should have an EU CoC which may make it easier to import. The problem may be that the petrol engine is only EU4. The diesel is EU5 - and a new Patriot is around 19,000chf

No no no. This is serious discussion about what type of car a normal person should buy so absolutely belongs here.

Jamie's shortlist for next family-wagon
C4 Picasso
VW Touran
Bonkers Ruskie Jeep-van
Audi A4 Allroad
Fiat 500X
Pogo stick
Cardboard box with 'Bugatti' written on the side
Cargo bike
GA rail pass
