Selling Car - Cancelling Registration Documents

I'm selling my car this weekend and I wanted some advice on the process please. I have a private buyer and we agreed that he would collect the car this Monday (which is a public holiday). From other threads I see I need to remove the plates and give him the registration document (grey card). Then I return the plates to the authorities and cancel the insurance.

My question is do I need to have the grey card cancelled prior to handing it over? It seems that I can either
A) Cancel the grey card and return the plates in advance of the handover.
B) Give the uncancelled card to the new owner and remove the plates at the time of handover, then return these to the authorities later.

Is this corect? I'm out of CH until Friday night and have agreed the buyer can collect the car this Monday which means I can't cancel the grey card or return the plates in advance. I wanted to check I'm ok to give him the uncancelled grey card and simply return the plates on Tuesday. Any advice would be very welcome please.

Thanks.

Re: Selling Car - Cancelling Registration Documents

Just return your plates, I did this on a vehicle I sold on the forum , with another sale the buyer returned the plates, however I did know him & said he could use my plates for a week

Ok great thanks, so there is no need to have the registration document cancelled in advance and I can give him it as is?

Re: Selling Car - Cancelling Registration Documents

No requirement at all. If you have 2 cars on 1 plate its better to, as if he does not register it you can't cancel the insurance or put a 2nd car in the plates

Re: Selling Car - Cancelling Registration Documents

Good afternoon,

I am working in a cardealership and one of our clients gave us his originally swiss car to sell, but during the registration process someone lost the original (cancelled Swiss documents of the vehicle) and now during the Spainsh registration process they are asking for the original ones.. How can we get a copy of the cancelled documents of the car?

In other post I saw:

My experience of this as at August 2014, Kanton ZH:

1. Lost gray card (fahrzeugausweis)
2. called the Strassenverkehrsamt (www.stva.zh.ch)
3. they directed me to the form/formulare page http://www.stva.zh.ch/internet/siche.../StVAform.html

the form is at the very top of the list and is called "Gesuch am Ausstellung eines Fahrzeugausweis-Duplikats"

Fill it in and mail, fax or email a scan (info@stva.zh.ch)

Cost is CHF15 (as I understood).

if you have a copy of an old one, the Stammnumber is a 9 digit code e.g. xxx.xxx.xxx and you will need to know the number on the license plates (schild).

All done in 10 mins, I assume i get a mail and grey card in the mail soon.
hope this helps...

It would be the same process in this case also????

Best regards, And thanks in adnvance for your help!
