Train derailed: Bienne - Yverdon folks getting to GVA by train will be complicated

... At least till Tuesday. A 22 wagon goods convoy derailed at Cossonay-Penthalaz on Friday night, with at 5 to 6 wagons rupturing and releasing highly toxic products into the environment.

If you need to fly from GVA, consider driving. The temporary arrangements involve transiting via Bern and/or Fribourg, so it's much much longer to get down to the airport. Those commuting are of course also in trouble for Monday and probably Tuesday... Good luck to all!

More info & pictures here.

A long time since I did Chemistry at school but it doesn't sound like a good idea to have a mix of toxic chemicals together on one train. From that account it sound as if it was not as bad as it could have been.

Yes but tonight's rain isn't helping the decontamination process. They got lucky on this... It could have been so much worse. Let's hope the Venoge river and the water sources of the area don't get hit.
