Insurance validity after leaving CH

Please,
Situation as follows: Swiss car, Swiss insurance, now living in France.

Anyone know how long my car insurance is valid for upon leaving CH?
My insurer assured my that I was still ok when I informed them of the above situation (I've been out of CH for a month already) but they were unable to tell me for how long I can retain my insurance with them.

Many thanks for any help here....

It's valid as long as you still have CH plates & you pay the premium. You can keep the plates for 12 months.

Re: Insurance validity after leaving CH

Thanks VERY much for the info,
I'm not doubting you (with 11.000+ posts!)
But, do you know a link to that info on an official Swiss site?
Or even a decent term with which to Google it?

Thanks again,

I know someone who did it for more than 12 months, three years if I recall.

Anyway, so long as you have Swiss plates, it's insured.

Check your insurance T+C. The Zurich connect ones I had were in English and said the insurance will lapse at the end of the insurance year in which you deregister.

Why don't you just ask the authorities in the canton that the car is registered? I don't think you will find the answer on an official Swiss site.

Re: Insurance validity after leaving CH

Why not just ask them to confirm that you are ok and until when in writing. Your 3rd liability will be ok on CH plates- but if you have Casco or full Casco, some or part of it may not be valid. To the horse's mouth and always in writing. If anything happens, it won't carry much weight to say that 'someone on EF said I'd be ok'.

Oh, but I see now- you are using the thread to advertise your car for sale on post 2- ahaha.

I doubt you will get anything in writing..... why would they be bothered?

The only time I have had any dealings with Swiss motor insurance claims, they never required proof of residence. Even after giving them a foreign address they would write to me at the old address in Switzerland, same with the Government, health insurance & everybody else. I can't even correct my address on my Swisscom phone account it's not possible
