Where do you see me protesting against 3rd party shop - as long as it is in conformity with BMW standards, and approved by them?

none of you serial groaners are answering my question - will you pay the exact same price for a second hand BMW with non-genuine parts, like you would with genuine ones?
Referring specifically to the screen, as long as it's the correct colour/functionality then yes. It makes no difference to the car's value unless it looks like a dodgy DIY job

Otherwise, for mechanical parts, if you've got a full BMW service history with receipts then it's likely the car will be worth more than having no or non-BMW service history where cheap parts might have been used. Whether it's then worth more than the extra you paid to BMW is another question.

I think by now we all know he has a BMW, why not ask BMW direct if the warranty is affected.
I already did - with BMW abroad, where actual damage occurred. They considered it needs a replacement as it is in the driver's eyesight. I am still to check with BMW here.

Again, precisely my question. What if it is not?

Price on the second hand market will be 2/3 of what you want. It won't make any difference & nobody will even notice.
Even with non-genuine parts? Allow me to express my doubt.

No, it was not. But no sense in continuing this useless 'debate'.

Wow! Why not using multi-quote, instead?
And, if you think there's no sense in continuing this 'debate' why not asking for the thread to be closed?
I am of the same opinion, as it seems you made up your mind already before your OP...

Re: Windscreen Replacement

So here is the outcome. In a nutshell, I am not fully satisfied given that the replacement windscreen is a non-BMW endorsed (less important)/ does not feel of the same quality as the original (more important). However, it is a confirmed genuine replacement made by Pilkington (confirmed by them), so perhaps I just got unlucky since I did get a genuine replacement but just does not feel of the same quality as the original piece. But this is only my personal feel and there is nothing more that I can legally do, so won't bother any more. C'est la vie, I guess...

Interestingly enough, got the paperwork from the shop as well as from BMW to compare the costs. It turns out that the BMW quote with provision of their endorsed part would cost mere 16 CHF more than the 3rd party shop -- that provided Pilkington non-BMW endorsed screen. The total BMW quoted was 1962 CHF as opposed to 1951 CHF by the shop. Nonetheless, BMW quote further included the final control cost of some 52 CHF which added to the difference.

With regard to a spare screen price alone, the actual cost of the BMW genuine replacement screen was cheaper than the non-endorsed screen delivered by the shop --- (1064 CHF as compared to 1073 CHF).

Another funny thing is that the shop in fact confirmed to me that the screen they installed was 'non-genuine' and 'if I wanted a BMW screen I should have told them this in advance'. Luckily for them, turns out the screen they installed is genuine, just not BMW endorsed.

I really wonder why insurances insist on 3rd party shops when a manufacturer authorized agent would do the same work for the same, if not lower, price. At least would avoid all the hassle of determining whether genuine or non-genuine piece is installed.

In any case, a lesson learnt for the next time.
