DIY garage/Selbstschrauberwerkstatt in Loerrach-Haagen (for Baslers)

For any of you in or around Basel who like me like to do your own car repairs there's a place just north of Loerrach that rents garage space - lifts/tools/etc by the half hour. I went there Saturday and again on Monday because well you know things always take longer than you think. They've got one four-post lift and I think three two-posters. They don't really speak English but you can probably get by with sign language if you can't do German. It's more back-street than BMW but for me it worked out at about €16/hr for the four-post lift.

Their website isn't very good but you'll get the idea.

I went by there about a year ago and it was open but it's taken me another year to go in and do the repair. It was busy on Saturday but I was the only one there on Monday and they made 34.50 out of me so I don't know how much longer it will be there. They also say they had to get a new phone number but I think the only place where it's written is on a note taped to the garage door. They'd probably do a lot better if they were open in the evening, if it would be allowed.

Did you see if they have a hydraulic press?

A lot of the stuff is tucked away in the dark at the back but I did see a massive metalworking lathe, so they might have a press.

Idea is good but if you have dismantled a lot of stuff and then find you need an unexpected part which is not immediately available then you can run up a big bill. Either leaving the undriveable auto on the stand or doing the work twice!!

I think it's €80 for the whole day (arranged in advance) but yeah you have to be sure you can get your car out of there at some time! It's all part of the thrill They didn't charge me for keeping the car there Saturday night until Monday. Anything that I can do at home, where I know there's the potential for being without the car for a few days, I'll do at home.
