Just wanted to post some preliminary info and see if people have come across this. I will of course confirm once we have the final confirmation in the form of the licence.
My wife had a Texas licence because she lived there briefly (with validity from 2008-2014). She however had and continues to have an Indian licence that is valid until 2025 (since 2005). She only moved to Switzerland last year in oct. She called up the STVA today to ask if she could avoid the Kontrolfahrt to convert her Indian licence as she also held a full Texas licence that has now expired. It was more of a hopeful call as we assumed it would not be the case.
Surprisingly, the clerk said she can just hand in her Texas licence and receive a Swiss licence as long as she can show with her Indian licence that she was authorised to drive somewhere in the world.
I am not sure how accurate this info is but we will find out soon. I will update here once we know either way.
Meanwhile, has anyone had this experience before? What the clerk said seems completely logical though. Not sure if that is the law!
