Road classification

I wonder if anyone has had the misfortune to be captured by the speed camera on road from Biel to Twann Tuscherz. I'm curious as to the road clarification. It seemed very like an out of town highway road but on the map it looks as though it is urban.

I got flashed on the first camera going in the direction of Twann Tuscherz. ...60km/h section.

What help do you want exactly? You just stated you got flashed - and indicated you were a bit grumpy by the fact it is only a 60kmh zone.

Road classification is not going to make a blind bit of difference if the stated limit is 60kmh.

Re: Road classification

Oh but it does my friend. I am not at all grumpy.

Perhaps someone who knows the road classification with respect to speeding violations can reply.

I don't but you can use google streetview to see if you were in or out of the town name signs. The [town name here] and [no longer town name here] signs delimit the innerorts area. Enjoy the fine :-)

Maybe I'm missing something, but the classification is the black digits in the red circular sign on the picture DK shared - you're supposed to drive less than that.

The classification is the default if there aren't any signs, which is the usual 120 for motorway, 100 for freeway, 80 for main roads and 50 in built-up areas.

There are different "allowances" for "in town" "out of town" classifications for how much above the limit you can go before things start getting more interesting than simply getting a fine through the post. I think we'd all like to know what the outcome is.

Yes. I once passed a speed linit sign and was flashed on a camera.

I went onto an internet forum and they advised me to pay the fine.

I disagreed, so I waited until I got 10 posts and groaned them all.

That made me feel better.

The police knocked and my door and invited me to pay personally. I declined and pointed them to my posts on the forum to prove they were wrong.

They cancelled the fine because if it's on the internet, then it's true.

Fight it! Fight it all the way! We'll be cheering for you.

FREE THE TWANN TUSCHERZ ONE!

Re: Road classification

The road has a cycle lane, so it is neither a Autobahn nor a Autostrasse.

I do not know where your flashy-flshy is.
Use Google Streetview to find out if it is urban or exurban.

I think you'll find there are a lot of knowledgeable people on here, who regularly help people (for free). You are providing very little information for anyone to actually be able to do so, apart from the few posts people have made with google map links (which for some reason you don't like).

Now, simply put - it depends. Sections of that road are indeed "ausserorts" and sections are classified as "innerorts". Without knowing exactly where you were flashed no-one here will be able to provide you with more assistance than that.

I'll make an educated guess that you've received a fine in accordance to the "innerorts" and that you feel it should be "ausserorts". While I've never heard of anyone successfully challenging this, the only option you do have is to request a copy of the picture from the authorities. That will allow you to then show (should it indeed be the case) that you were located "ausserorts" at the point of speeding and hence have the fine adjusted accordingly.

An attempt to argue it should be an 80kmh zone will get you nowhere.. But good luck.

I drive up and down that road frequently but have never been flashed.( I know where the cameras are)
The speed limit changes frequently between 80 and 60 and back again depending on whether it's in a 'built up area' ( I use the term loosely as there are only a few houses) or not. The part nearest to Biel is 50 as it becomes more populated and 'built up' there.
The speed limits are clearly indicated but there are a lot of speed cameras along the road between La Neuveville and Biel and they do flash pretty often so I gues they're pretty lucrative.

Does that answer your question?

So you can't help the OP even though you drive that road regularly? What is the world coming to....!!

And to the OP - has anything dropped through your letterbox? And most importantly, what was your speedo showing when you were illuminated? If it's a 60kph limit then the tolerances are lower and fines go up quickly....

No not all of them. There are a couple on the straight 80 section where it is probably fairly easy to exceed the limit.
