Warning about Mobility Car insurance deductable
In the latest TCS magazine (December 2015) they have an article about potential "problems" with the Mobility Car insurance program.
The standard deductible in case of an accident (or any damage to the car) is CHF 2'500 (or more for young and new drivers). So in the case of an accident (if you are even partially at fault), you will be on the hook for the first CHF 2'500. Also if you take the car without noticing some previous damage (that you can not prove was there), you are liable for the first CHF 2'500 of damage.
The TCS strongly recommends that if you rent often from Mobiliy, you pay CHF 150/year to bring the deductible down to CHF 300. You have to ask for this option as it is not offered directly. If you rent only from time to time, you can pay CHF 20 per rental.
Both of these premiums are per person so if you are two people in the family who rent you both have to pay.
The TCS also recommends that you take photos of the car (any visible damage outside/inside) before you drive off so you have proof that it was there from the previous driver. You should also take photos when you return the car.
Also as a bit of a plug for their insurance program, they also recommend you have a Livret ETI if you drive outside of CH with a Mobility car.
Do or do not, there is no try(ing). Yoda
