New security at BSL

I didn't fly last week, so might be old news. There is a new security protocol at Basel Airport. 100% passport control BEFORE security and it looked like everyone was taking shoes off during scan. May want to add a little time to your journey until they work the bugs out. Basically, no Schengen from the Swiss side.

Passport control was more recently (for the past couple of years) only at the entrance to the non-schengen wing.

Currently (for the past couple of weeks) it is on the mezzanine above the main check-in area before security (with no fast track for business) and at the bottom of the escalators for the security at the Easyjet check-in side.

OK. Old news for some, but definitely within the last two weeks. Flew on the 23rd and wasn't set up yet.

Yeah. Not sure if it was set-up because of the Paris shootings, or if was already planned for the Climate Change thing.

When we returned from UK last week, they'd also set up passport control on the non-Schengen channel of arrivals into the baggage hall. Which was great for us, as the queue for the normal immigration points was huge and we got sent down the non-Schengen side.

Is definitely a nuisance when transporting a sleeping toddler! That having been said, the (small) queue moved very quickly and the airport police manning the cabin-y thing were very friendly.

Re: New security at BSL

Having flown into both Zurich & Geneva in the last 10 days there was zero passport control from Schengen countries.
Flying from the UK there was a normal control & some passports including mine was scanned, my OH not. I was acting suspiciously as I was avoiding a queue by going around the corner where I knew there was another way through (GE), I then waited for a second window to open.

I guess it's because BSL (airport) is in France, and it's easy to cross between "countries" once airside and in the baggage hall. Though the controls we went through were Swiss, I'd expect them to work closely together.

Is the setup not similar in Geneva?

Re: New security at BSL

And LGW was a ghost town at customs today. Not even the usual profiling induced baggage searches.
