Traffic fine: Need help with letter translation

Long story short, I did the crime, so I'll do the time as they say... The letter from the authorities arrived today.

In the letter is this statement: "Der beschuldigte wird bestraft mit einer Geldstrafe, CHF xxx. Der Vollzug dieser Geldstrafe wird aufgeschoben, unter Ansetzung einer Probezeit von 2 Jahren"

What exactly does this statement mean?? Google Translate tells me that the fine is postponed? I'm willing to pay the fine to get this done with but I'm just confused what they mean.

Thanks all!

Re: Traffic fine: Need help with letter translation

It is not a fine, it is a montary sentence. Handed out instead of short term prison sentence. And it is on propation. Do anything wrong in the next two years and you have to pay, be a good boy/girl and you will not have to pay.
Normally, there is also a fine (Busse) of around CHF 600 which you have to pay. Plus the court fees.

Now sit back and wait for the next letter from the StVA/Amt für Administrativemasnahmen. They will give you a driving ban for at least 3 months, maybe up to 6 months. Plus another bill.

Ok, so I don't pay this fine now and if I behave for the next 2 years, they will cancel the fine permanently.

During the probation period, I understand that if I commit the same offense (or something worse) then this fine will drop in. But what about minor offenses (i.e. exceeding parking time), do I need to worry about these too?

Ok, so it is a Monetary Sentence, thanks for the term.
You're right, I do have to pay a Busse and the court fees.

A letter from StVA has arrived informing me I have 10 days to air my side, but I won't bother to contest as I feel it will only increase my admin fee. Anyway, I'll wait for the 2nd letter from StVA for much they'll take from me.

Anything which can be handled out of court is not a problem. As long as you pay in time. If you miss a deadline to pay a simple fine it will go to court...

Out of curiosity and maybe to help future readers understand the procedure to follow when found guilty of the same crime as yours, what is the crime in question?

And depending on how the vote on Feb. 28th goes, you might also be packing your bags if you mess up again.

You should not be convicted of any crime during the two years. Parking offences and maybe forgetting to buy a bus ticket are OK. But threatening someone, or shop stealing etc would bring big trouble. So you should be very careful for the next 2 years.

This is the first fine in my 9 years here, so going with averages, I hope to keep it clean for the next 2 years. In any case, the pain in my wallet is enough reason to be careful.

Re: Traffic fine: Need help with letter translation

To give closure to this thread...

- Jan 2016: Offense committed
- Feb 2016: Received letter from authorities that license is suspended for 3 months, busse/court fee amount, and the suspended monetary sentence amount
- Apr 2016: Got license back and pay CHF 360 to StVA for storage fee
- Nov 2016: Received bill for busse (400) and court fee (800)

CHF 1560 all-in, an expensive mistake I won't soon forget...

Probably indicating correctly when using a roundabout. E.g. So other road users know his intention.

Check out some older threads on EF. This forum has it all!

In all seriousness, it could be exceeding the speed limit plus tailgating or something else and if the OP has a big income I'm not that surprised at the amount.

It depends on the income now? HA! I'll get places fast then.
