Transporting a motorcycle from Genf to Zürich

Hi guys,

I would appreciate if anyone has a good recommendation on how to best transport a motorcycle from Genf to Zürich.

Since I found a used bike in Genf, but still haven't driven a single km on one, I find it too long for a first trip.

A first price indication from an official transport company was around 900-1.000 CHF, and I could really use a cheaper option.

Would be happy to hear any alternative suggestions!

Thank you in advance,
Stigsby

it's only 3 hours. perfect for a first drive.
if you think it's too long, it's probably not the right bike

Re: Transporting a motorcycle from Genf to Zürich

a) Find someone with a van or trailer

b) Pay someone to ride it for you

What bike, when do you plan to move it, is it registered and insured?

Tom

Spent 4 hours back Sunday due to traffic and on high-way all the way.

Small country roads which would be appropriate for a beginner would take an eternity.

I'll message details of a man with van I've used before.. More relevant because he also has a motorcycle business.

Or hire me

I'm unemployed, have plenty of time, and love to ride.

Seriously, I've done this before (three times, actually). I didn't charge anything for my time, the owners paid for the return trip for two of the moves, and I had a different bike waiting for me on the 3rd assignment. I got to go for a ride, the bikes were all delivered in perfect condition and everyone was happy.

Hi Tom,

The bike I need to move is a Triumph Scrambler from 2014, it is registered and I am setting up insurance in my name currently. A specific date for transport is not necessary, however in the month of March would be the best.

If you have any contacts I would appreciate it, dropped an email to John H's contact hoping he is still active.

BR,
Stigsby

You sound just like the person I was looking for. Judging by a quick look on your blog, experience in driving motorcycles doesn't seem to be a problem neither.

I'll send you a quick dm!

Sounds like your best option. If DantesDame can't do it for any reason, I'll ride the bike over for you. I ride a Triumph Sprint GT at the moment (all bar one of my bikes have been Triumphs ).

I've been looking for days for an alternative solution, and within half an hour the forum members provide me with 3 viable options.

Amazing community here!

If it doesn't work out with DantesDame for whatever reason, I will gladly contact you afterwards.

There is no such thing as traffic when you are on a motorcycle.

PS it's called Geneva in English.

Re: Transporting a motorcycle from Genf to Zürich

This specific case seems to be looked after but for the future one could also check with TCS how much it would cost to have it transported from GVA to ZRH.

Since they are going back a forth almost daily with cars (and I sometimes see motorcycles), they might have a price for the service.

TCS also had a road side assistance package for motorcycles as well as cars.

Re: Transporting a motorcycle from Genf to Zürich

Hi all,

Despite the weather turning both cold and windy on the pick-up day, the lovely DantesDame now brought my motorcycle safely to Zürich.

Thank you C. for the big help, and thanks to all the rest of you who also offered your help!

Completely new to this motorcycle thing, and I can only say it's been a great way to start of.

Have a nice evening all, and thanks again C.!

BR,
Stigsby

Re: Transporting a motorcycle from Genf to Zürich

I would have liked to have taken more photos, but with the grey weather and the monotony of the motorway, the more photogenic photo ops never materialized

However, the bike transport is complete and Stigsby can now enjoy his new bike from the comfort of home I wish him (and us) a good spring, so that we can enjoy our bikes on the road, too!

For those who are interested, I wrote up the trip for my archives (ie, my memories): Scrambling from Geneva

Thanks again for the opportunity!!

That's a beautiful bike!

Can I send you to Ticino to pick up a Virago?
