Why is ANYONE supposed to give a shit that you knew some people who died in a car crash? If you don't like it, don't read it. Don't try to silence other though just because you're personally offended.

Hi dear friends of the forum,

Last Monday I crashed my car because the highway had like a very thin layer of ice. De car started rotating, crashed and now it's fully damaged and it's a scap.

I have heard that the canton/police will give me not only a fine but also that I will lose my driving license for a month. Is this true?

I mean I almost died, have no car anymore and now I must pay because the road had ice?? I was wasn't speeding, wasn't drunk, and a 186k car with all its technology couldn't do anything to stop because the road had ice and now I even have to pay for it??!! Come on seriously?!

Please help me with your experience and advice.

Thank you

Hi again dear friends of the forum. Thank you so much for your insight and experience.
I was asking just asking if that happened to you and the legal outcome of it so I know what to expect.

This is a great forum and easily one of my favorites. There are many great users that make the forum what it is, but I must say there are others that....well envy is a very ugly thing.

The accident wasn't with me but with my wife, she was driving at 23h in a deserted highway to pick me up at the hospital where I was recovering from surgery. I didn't mention this because I knew people would say that women cant drive and that's absolutely not true. She drives much better than many man, always safe, respecting others and the law. So do I.

She was driving at 120 in Cruise control and changed lane to overtake a slower driver, again nothing illegal. The moment she tried to change lane everything happened and she ended up outside the road with the car totaled. We say it was probably ice because there just a bit of dirty snow in both lanes.

She didn't endangered no one and if it wasn't for the car automatically calling the police and give the coordinates no one stopped to help her. I was oblivious to all of this waiting for her in the hospital.

I told the price of the car so the people sharing their experiences with me know that it wasn't some 3k car, that barely passed the annual control and with summer tires. I didn't bought the car to overtake no one but for the security, stability and comfort. Remember the car is scrap and she didn't have a single cut our bruise. That's the investment right there.

Me or she never had a single speed ticket and if we want to speed a little we do some shopping in Germany or I go to the Nurburgring.

I was automatically called a jerk because I drive a more expensive car. Well I don't remember the last time people with Lambos, Ferraris os Porsches doing silly stuff on the road but crappy car drivers well...

Anyway two things I have learned in the forum and i'm thankful for that, one there is some fine coming and since I don't agree I will just leave it to the lawyer to deal with it. He has got to eat too.
Two, yes its true I should have a safer car AWD, and I was just at the dealer sealing the contract to even safer model from another brand. A 282k AWD it is.

Have a great weekend everyone and please drive safely, now you're OK and two seconds later....
Tekaefixe, I read through all your posts before responding to get a picture of the whole situation first.
I'm sorry for what happened to you, but what counts is what situation your car was in while on the street and the possible consequences of that situation - not who put it in that situation, how much it cost or if the consequences actually happened. That's why you have to have your car in control at all times while driving. Ice, rain, night, steep hill, whatever, it's your responsibility to take precautions. It's not a silly fine IMO, because while it might seem unfair to you and nothing happened in your case, in other situations things do happen and if there were no fines, people might take more risks while driving.
If you drive, no matter which situation you are in (having to get somewhere quickly or not) you always are responsible for staying within the rules (keeping your car in control, remaining within speed limits etc.), and if you cannot stay within those rules, you shouldn't drive and do whatever you can to get to your desired location by other means (taxi, bus, etc.).
While your personal situation might be negatively influenced by the accident (wrecked car, hospital stay), they cannot "nullify" the endangerment of traffic which could have had bad consequences for others - if that were the case I'd hazard a guess that people's driving habits would be pretty bad because they don't have to take take others into consideration and some might take the mickey.

Anyway, kudos for remaining civil on here.

Why is it that when someone asks an honest question on this forum, there's so much $ bashing ? Is there some subliminal pi$$ing contest going on here ? This guy wants a bit of information (possibly some consolation) and people are taking the mickey because he had a nice car ? Sounds really unpleasant.
I was asked a question about my rental budget and got a similar reply "you'll do ok on your xxxk CHF a year salary".
Personally I feel sorry for anyone who has an accident (scary), loses their means of transport (inconvenient), and has to deal with a nasty legal situation afterwards.
Anyone here heard of compassion? Sympathy? Or are you all just weighing your personal wealth against each other?
GET A GRIP!
To the guy who posted this to his 'friends on the forum', I hope you're ok. Don't grieve over the material stuff (replaceable), and try not to fret over the legal business. If they're going to fine you, they will. Glad you're in one piece ...

Er, if it is me you are referring to, I'm from Sussex, not Essex, you ignorant creature.
And no, I'm not Burner's girlfriend. I'm married, thanks.

I see a lot of bullying goes on around here on the EF. All done by blokes (I'm thinking overweight bikers in their 50's with a few extra dozen kilos). Who enjoy 'bashing' newbies for a laugh. Pathetic!

This poster was in hospital, his wife had an accident on her way to see him, and all you can obsess about is the price of his car. Gotta feel sorry for you.
I don't think you're on top at all. More likely feeling miserable under.
Showing mind-blowing rudeness won't get you far, on or off a forum, in our out of an accident, ill or healthy, girlfriend or not. Refer to people as people please.

OK, done and dusted. It did make a huge impact on all off our lives - all of the deaths - but that seems to be irrelevant on this forum. Wish you lots of fun, I'm done.

I find it rude and unfeeling that someone would want to claim victim status in order to silence others.

I didn't read Zurirollt's post about the loss of lives as an attempt to claim victim status at all.

Perhaps you are referring to a different post. Perhaps you are referring to the same post as I, just that you didn't actually read what he wrote within the discussion as it stood at that point in time.

"Showing mind-blowing rudeness won't get you far, on or off a forum, in our out of an accident, ill or healthy, girlfriend or not. Refer to people as people please."

Ah, but how selective we are ...
"little fart"
"Snow Queen"

Interesting that mind-blowing rudeness is apparently acceptable in some and empathy not approved of in others.

Showing mind-numbing partiality won't get one far either.

Seeing your name today on the Forum reminded me of this thread, and I wondered what happened in the end? Did your wife get fined or lose her licence or not, out of interest (and did the car have snow/winter tyres?)
