Motorcycle maintenance

Time has come to change engine oil and do some routine maintenance on my motorbike.

1. Where do you guys get the engine oil from? 10w30 in my case.

2. Is it cheaper to just go to a mechanic and get them to change oil and do other small things, or it does save a lot of money to DIY? I am comfortable with DIY having done regular stuff on my other motorcycles from before.

3. Where do you all wash your motorcycle?

P.S. When does the sun come out?

Re: Motorcycle maintenance

1. Amazon Market Place.
2. Yes, if your option is a main stealership. Maybe, if you go to Cahenzli or an other independent guy which has reasonable prices.
3. There are many coin-op car washs.

PS: It is out now, and was on Sunday as well.

PS first - Not where I am sitting but signs look positive

Amazon? .de I suppose? I was looking at https://www.autoteile-meile.ch and polo online.

Maybe I should make a trip to Cahenzli and get him to look over the motorcycle once.

Any car wash close to Zurich?

Re: Motorcycle maintenance

Yes .de Pick up at a pack station in DE,

Stützli Wösch on Hohlstrasse near Letzipark. Can be crowded.
J.H. Keller, in Altstetten. Less crowded, more space for detailing afetr the wash.

The first has the better detergent, the later the longer usage times per coin.

I also buy stuff from louis.de

They have a shop close to Basel, at Weil Am Rhein and a new shop will be available soon in Zurich.

One of my absolute favourite books. I finally bought a hard bound edition as I ran through a few paperbacks.

I do everything myself, including engine rebuilds.

Any petrol station. But it won't be cheap. If you have the time, buy it online, as suggested.

P.S. You live in the wrong place. Lots of sun here in tropical Basel.

Re: Motorcycle maintenance

reifendirekt.ch and autoteile meile whatever, are all parts of the Delti group and have the best price for oil (that I've found at least). So you can have a look and see.

Reifendirekt.ch has free shipping for oil etc

Re: Motorcycle maintenance

1. I use Semi-Synthetic from Migros DIY, no need for engine rebuilds in the past 20+ years. Use Semi-Synthetic for wet-clutch bikes and Synthetic for dry-clutch bikes (Ducati). Every now and then Migros runs am "Aktion" on motor oils.

3. Before you use the spray gun in a car wash, get rid of chain grease, oil and tar with the help of a rag and some non-smelling petrol (sold by Coop and Migros as lamp oil or petrol).

Thank you. The only semi-synth in Migros that I could find was a car engine oil. For motorcycle, they only hold Castrol.

Re: Motorcycle maintenance

drkarthiks,

What is your bike? Make/model/year? As others have mentioned the cheapest prices in Switzerland for engine oils are at reifendirekt, in particular the page for the motorcycle oil is at

http://www.reifendirekt.ch/cgi-bin/o...cle_disabled=1

I've been using them for quite some time and as long as you are shopping on reifendirekt.ch the delivery is free.

Depending on your bike you probably will need to buy either some API or some JASO certified oil, so the best way is to check the owner manual and find out the required viscosity and oil specification.

I've been using louis.de a few times and one should keep in mind that delivery is not free. Also the Swiss customs issue 8% tax as well as 'calculation fee' for the tax which is 10-20 CHF IIRC.

Yes, but they don't sell Motorex or AGIP, the two that I use!
