Baby on bus without car seat

Last week I took the Zentralbahn from Luzern to Interlaken with my very young baby. The line is under maintenance, so we had to change to a SBB bus mid-way (in Sarnen). Problem is, I had not planned in advance to take a car seat with me (I was "wearing" the baby), so I decided to board the bus and hope for the best. Does anyone know (links?) whether this is against the regulations? Thanks in advance!

Re: Baby on bus without car seat

Why would it be against regulations? If you don't have a car and rely on public transport to get around you wouldn't have a car seat anyway would you?

As far as I am aware the only places you are by law required to have a baby strapped into an appropriate seat are cars and planes ( seat belt, car seat or harness etc).

And motorcycles.

My youngest started as a passenger at 5 months.

Re: Baby on bus without car seat

During the first months, I was always wearing the LO when out and about as he had severe reflux. Never been stopped or warned in the public transport (bus, tram, train) for not having a car seat. You surely could attach the Maxi Cosi or other infant car seats to the normal pram, but it doesn't mean you have to. Although when the LO firstly went home after he was born, one of the things that we need to prepare is stroller or infant car seat.

Re: Baby on bus without car seat

We (baby and I) have been plenty of times on trolley buses (in Luzern) and trams (in Zurich) and trains (either in a stroller or baby-wearing), but it was the first time we had to board a long-distance 50-seater tourist bus:

Still unsure about it!
Thanks for the replies.

On public transport you do not need a baby seat.
