Towing+Speed Cameras

Hi, Does anyone know if the speed cameras on the motorways are equipped with sensors that can tell if you are towing or not - and do you know of anyone that has been caught. I was recently towing a boat for the first time and assumed the speed limit was 120kph - unfortunately a friend told me it was 80 kph! I dread to think what the fine will be...... cheers Jules

I'm pretty sure you will be fine, I think the cameras will only flash over 120 anyway. If the police had caught you it would have been different, after all, it is pretty dangerous to drive at that speed with a trailer.

Hi, thanks. It is strange that the speed limit in France for towing is 130kph, UK is 110kph ish (60mph) and Switzerland is just 80 kph. I was towing a beach catamaran, which is pretty light. Cheers.

60 MPH is 96 KPH, not 110. 130 in France doesn't sound right and 80 in Switzerland doesn't sound right either, hard to decipher but I think it is 100 in both countries: http://www.aaroadwatch.ie/eumotoring/speed_notes.asp

Seriously, keep those speeds down whilst towing, cheers.

Swiss traffic regulation #106 states that "...with a trailer up to 1000kg net weight, the speed limit is 80kph."

That said, I have yet to see this obeyed, let alone enforced...
