Importing a VW Golf 2011

So I've been importing a car from UK, its VW Golf mk6 1.6 TDI (2011) with Halogen Headlights.

Do you think I need to buy new headlights to pass the technical control? Anyone has imported a Golf from UK? Any tips are appreciated!

In my experience they only check the aiming (and throw pattern) of the headlamps, so as long as your halogens don't start burning a hole in the test pattern...

Check that they work on high & low, are aimed & suit LHD and go for the inspection.

Re: Importing a VW Golf 2011

As stated many times before, please consider if importing a RHD car into CH really makes any sense.

Not only is it complicated with the import taxes and possible modifications, but once you would like to sell the car, the chances are very slim to sell it in CH and you would probably have to get it back to the UK to get it sold.

Why not simple sell it in the UK and buy a new one over here? Prices in CH are rather reasonable compared to all the hassle that you would avoid.

You could also have mentioned that driving the damned thing here is a complete misery with severely reduced visibility for overtaking, struggling over the passenger seat to get at parking ticket machines on the wrong side and entering an Autobahn requiring a 180 degree rotation of the head to check the way is clear.

Well, all of that as well of course!

(but maybe, secretly, we LHD drivers just enjoy the show of seeing someone struggling with the ticketing machines and wouldn't mind another one for our own amusement?)

How bothersome these things are depends on how long the OP plans to stay here. In the classic car community these things are thought to build character. Besides, you can sometimes reverse into the ticket machines at parking lots (I find it easier to use a grabber stick).

I can't help it, but I keep thinking of this:

There used to be a big advantage though:
Cameras take pictures of the LHD driver, if you speed they show just an empty seat. Until a few years ago that usually meant no one could be fined.

Doesn't work any longer though, these days the Fahrzeughalter is the default culprit.

The best answer is 'yes'. You might get lucky and they don't really check very well but you don't want to be driving over here with unadjusted RHD lights.
The easiest thing to do is get some from ebay Germany or so. Otherwise you might be able to buy a halogen to xenon conversion but will require some DIY skills.

Re: Importing a VW Golf 2011

Thank you all for your reply.

I'm trying to find some from ebay Germany. The seller asked for the (HSN) Herstellernummer (TSN) Tyschlüsselnummer ...to make sure the Headlamps will fit my car, but all I could find is the Chasis no. on the V5C.

Does anyone knows where I find HSN, TSN?

Many thanks

On the Germans license papers . It is a German thing.

HSN is most likely 0603.
TSN could be APS, AOR, or something completely else as it is a RHD car.

Here the head light parts for the 2011 Golf. As you can see there are several types. Do not know which one you would need.
