We have used Car Glass, same organisation as Autoglass in the UK! Didn't want to install if it was raining, in the UK they just put a tent up!

You should ask your insurance who they work with. Generally each insurer has a preferred supplier and they will settle up directly.

Hmmm, that is the most logical thing to do, but in some cases that might be costly. I was going to do the same thing until my dealer told me they had spoken with the insurer and if they did it I would have to pay an excess (deductible) but if their preferred supplier (in this case DESA Autoglass) did it I would pay no excess.

Definitely worth talking to the insurer first....

In my case it was a side window, and we didn't have to pay anything (I was pleasantly surprised).

But asking the insurer is probably the most prudent.

insurer just said take it anywhere and get them to photo it and send them the pics before any work is carried out. if they had a preferred company it would have made life a bit simpler

Re: windscreen replacement co.

In my case it was broken by a thief (who only got away with my kids' homework), and I had a report from the Caribinieri to back it up, so no pics needed.

Funny, well sort of, mine was the same. Broken into in Milan....all for nothing, the car was empty.

Police weren't interested.

Well, I showed up with my lawyer!

OK, it was my friend that we were visiting, and my Italian sucked at the time.

Re: windscreen replacement co.

I had mine done two months ago via the insurance company. Stone damage from a truck that cracked with the heat. They used (sent to my place) DESA autoglass. Covered by the car insurance. Very professional. It takes a bit over 1 hour to do the work.

There is also Swiss Auto Glass, they come to your home if necessary (at least that's what one of the owners told me).

Just an FYI - although the cost is free - and your insurance premium will not increase - it is classified as a claim. 3 of those in 3 years and they can ask you to leave

Probably because the Verband doesn't want them to.

Good to know - is that a general rule or does it depend on the insurance company?

Are the 3 claims on the same car or just claims with that company in a 3-year period?

Re: windscreen replacement co.

I had a chip done this week, by DESA via the insurance company.
Claim was done online via check boxes, desa called me 10 mins after filing the claim, and was repaired a week later.
Cost to insurance was chf215. It was a very small chip, but right in the drivers line of sight. Happy with the result.
