Campervan Storage

Does anyone know of a parking/storage place suitable for campervans, on the west side of Lake Zurich? We currently live in the Enge area of Zurich but I am not against a 15 minute train ride to get to it. Any ideas much appreciated!

Next to the railway station in Au 8804.

50 CHF/month

But it's 19 minutes by train from Enge.

Re: Campervan Storage

Thanks Tom, might be a tad too far but not a bad price! Ideally I am looking for somewhere quiet secure, if such a place exists.

And where do you seriously expect to find parking suitable for a campervan within 15mins of central Zurich??

You might want to give information of the height of the campervan as if you want secure you'll want it indoors - or fenced (possible barrier).

You might find it worthwhile talking to local campervan/caravan suppliers, they'll know local places. There are a few near me - with a big one opening at Hegnau soon. But there is no point giving you more details as they are all over 15mins away.

The places next to a shop which sells and services campers are more expensive than just a field somewhere, as they are usually fenced in and the staff are there during working hours.

Nothing is 100%, but sometimes it is worth paying a bit more.

There are a few old industrial buildings about which have space large enough for a camper and are locked, but these are more than 50/month, and when a spot does come free it is usually filled by a friend of a friend, or from a waiting list. I know of two such buildings in Regensdorf, but the waiting list is long enough that you would be faster to sign on for a manned trip to Mars.

I'm not sure how secure it is but there are a lot of vans parked there.

With regard to distance and time, what's 10 minutes in the grand scheme of things if you're going away for a weekend?

I can't ever remember having thought not to go camping to a particular place because it was 4 minutes too long for the drive.

If time was important they'd not be driving a campervan

Re: Campervan Storage

Thanks guys. The 15 mins train ride away is just a rough figure. It would be used most weekends and also a bit midweek as our only vehicle, so too far away and it wouldn't really work. Ken, the height and length would rule out most garages, so open air would be fine. Would just be nice to find somewhere a bit secure. Happy to pay for that.

Pay the annual blue-zone costs then and park it as close to home as possible

Re: Campervan Storage

Homegate is a good place to look. You can do a search by region and look for parking spots in your area. Maybe there's something close by:

http://www.homegate.ch/rent/parking-...-list?tab=list

The above search appears to include a lot of bike spaces but also many car parking spots.

Re: Campervan Storage

Perhaps, with some research, you might find a space through https://parku.ch/. Through this site, private people can rent out parking spaces.

Re: Campervan Storage

How strict are they about the width of vehicles parked in blue zones? The van we are thinking of getting is based on a Fiat Ducato, which is 2.05m wide. We do have a lot of residents blue zone parking around us but I'm pretty sure we would be over the lines.

Go and measure.

2.30m is the norm, according to:
https://www.stadt-zuerich.ch/content...Parkierung.pdf

The Ducato isn't unusual as a tradesman or delivery van. I wouldn't want to be cruising around in one downtown during shopping hours on a Saturday, or during the street parade or such, but as long as it doesn't extend past the marked zone and it has a valid permit, not a big deal.

Thanks JW, that's really useful. Agreed, time to get the tape measure out!
