Driving license -- 2-Phasen-Ausbildung

Hello.

Strangely, I have not found information on "2-Phasen-Ausbildung" here on EF. In my case, I did first driving license here in Switzerland. First aid course, application in Zug Strassenverkehrsamt to pass theory in English in Zurich, "student" license, practice sessions with instructor, short theory course, practical test (well, I passed from the first time). Now comes the trick. The license I received is provisional, temporary. See here: http://2pa.ch/de/2-Phasen-Ausbildung...er-Hintergrund . In 3 years after receiving provisional license I should not commit "big offence" and I should take a two day course, see the same website above or https://www.tcs.ch/de/kurse/nach-kur...d-2-phasen.php . It is quite costy (about 800chf), by the way.

Closer to my trouble. I am speaking German, a bit (B1 or so). And I'd really like not just to "attend" these additional courses, but actually learn something. This implies that it's better to do it in English. Hence is my question: has anyone seen 2PA in English? May be private instructor (the instructor who taught me driving could do just the first part, as the second requires some special equipment).

Thanks for help.

I found them a complete waste of my time and money. Useful maybe only if got your license for the first time but don't really have a car to gain any practice. It's impossible to fail these courses, you attend and pay - you pass.

I'd take the cheapest German one if German's ok for you. If you want English, I know verkehrszentrum.ch offers them in English once in a while.

Search for "WAB", not 2-Phasen-Ausbildung on this forum for threads about these courses.

I had recent experience with this. There were occasional tests available in English. We looked in Emmen in Lucern. The price is steep but there are a few tips to reduce the cost.

You get a 100 chf discount if you are a TCS member. If not, you should get the membership and then put in your number in to get the 100 CHF discount.

They have occasional promotions to bring the cost down even more. This summer they had a promo code that offered an extra 50 CHF per day discount (100 total). I just googled "2 phasen ausbildung rabatt" and found the codes on some website and they worked.

Mobiliar also offers 100 CHF discount for WAB courses if you have car insurance with them. This smoothed the pain for me a bit. I sent them course completion confirmations and they reimbursed 100 CHF in a few weeks.

Re: Driving license -- 2-Phasen-Ausbildung

I found some interesting information regarding the 2-phasen, but should explain my situation here first.

I passed my driving test in 2010 in the UK, so when I came to exchange my UK license for a Swiss one they said I needed to do the 2 extra courses, which would cost around 800 CHF. However, I have since learned (by reading the small print) that if you can prove you had a learner license (in the UK a provisional license) prior to 2005, you don't have to do the extra courses.

Simpler: When you can proof you acquired (a.k.a passed practical driving test) your license at least 12 months before you moved to Switzerland you do not have to do the extra WAB /2-phase courses and you get a full license.
