I asked whether it would be possible to get a new MFK if I was to purchase the car. They said they would get a new MFK but they would add CHF1,000 to the purchase price.

Tell them to stick it, they are clearly assholes.

CHF 200, ok, but CHF 1000?

Ok, I have just spoken with the garage. The car passed the MFK in October 2015. They said that the care therefore does not need a new MFK. I asked whether it would be possible to get a new MFK if I was to purchase the car. They said they would get a new MFK put they would add CHF1,000 to the purchase price.

Any advice or feedback?

For the sake of a couple of thousand francs, would I better off just going to a place like AMAG / main dealership rather than trying to negotiate with small used car lots? I am finding it quite difficult to navigate this area of the market.

Well I guess that kinda tells you they think it'll fail and needs a grand worth of work.

walk away, in fact don't walk, run, run now, faster

Re: Buying a used car is Zurich with no recent MFK

a 10k car should come with a new mfk (or very very recent), no extra bills for doing it, no messing around, private or dealer, end of story.

Mr.Bourne has no particular reputation at present
Re: Buying a used car is Zurich with no recent MFK

I sold 6+ year old BMW without fresh MFK. Can adjust the price to manage that. I did have full bmw service records and car was in superb condition.

Re: Buying a used car is Zurich with no recent MFK

Not buying, selling my van (2013 model year) and thus far no invite for an MFK.

I booked an appointment to have it done because even with a warranty until 2019 I don't want a potential buyer to hesitate.

The dealer will perform the prep work based on the instructions from the test centre sheet but I will take the van myself. Test centre is 10 minutes from my house and I was told the test will take 20 minutes and the cost is chf 65.

Re: Buying a used car is Zurich with no recent MFK

MFK took 20 minutes. Booked an appointment right before lunch.
No problems and they stamped the grey card with the new date.

In the end the dealer took it for me as he did the prep work and the test centre is on his way home. He goes home for lunch. He dropped it off at my home on his way back to the dealership.

Have done an ad....will see how it goes.
