Not true. And to be honest after the prewash it crossed my mind that it was already good enough ..... but then I was there, might as well finish the job.

The entire Schaumburste portion of the wash costs CHF 1.00. Or CHF 0.00, if you switch to Schaumburste halfway through the time you paid for the pre-wash. I mean, who leaps up to feed another franc into the machine the second shampoo stops cascading at a rate of 10L/min from the brush? As long as the brush still leaves a slight streak of shampoo on the car as you scrub whorls into the paintwork, there's no need to pay!

No, they would require electricity and a pressurized water supply. Check back in 50 years.

Re: How do you wash your car?

I have never washed our 20 year old car & I don't think I have ever even filled it up. When I first came to Switzerland there was a garage nearby with a young man that did it so I always went there + now I have a husband for such tasks. I did manage such things back in the UK with my 1st car. Took it to the local fire station occasionally & they hosed it off.

Re: How do you wash your car?

I use the jet wash in Dietlikon. I've been doing the same as the OP, on my last trip the owner of the car wash came to speak to me and wanted to see the shampoo and wheel cleaner I was using. He told me it's not allowed and if the Kanton inspected and found I was using my own products he would be fined. I've since switched to a dry wash and wax. I'm interested to know of there is anywhere that is setup to allow people to wash their cars by hand and just pay for the use of the water?

In your own driveway? The local farmers are always washing off their tractors and nearby is the Werkhof belonging to the nearby Gemeinde and they all always washing their vehicles. I cannot say for sure that they are just using water without soap.

Then there are those who clean their outdoor patios, walkways and stones with products that I am sure are not environmentally friendly.

Surely there must be car wash products which are okay to go in the outside drains.

I wash my van myself at the DIY car wash and I also get looks from people who are waiting impatiently. It takes longer to wash my van, especially as I need a step stool to reach the top properly. I also bring wash mits with for stuff the hose misses.

The trick is to try and find an off peak time when it is not too busy.

It's parked outside right now and the rain is taking a good care of it!

Re: How do you wash your car?

My company uses this service for all of our company cars and I know several people who uses them for their private cars too:

https://wizwash.com

They come here and clean the cars inside out by hand.. The cars look absolutely brand new when they are done. I can highly recommend them.
