Re: Cheap transportfrom Zurich to St. Gallen

When it comes to domestic travel in Switzerland, trains are the only legal mode of transport between major cities.

However, you can save a lot by buying a Flixbus ticket from Zurich to a city such as Lyon (for Bern, Lausanne or Geneva) or Mulhouse (for Basel). Technically not legal though, and as such won't necessarily work in the other direction (coming from Geneva/Lausanne/Bern, you can buy a ticket to Konstanz to get to Zurich).

This is not possible for St Gallen unfortunately - your best bet is buying a Sparbillet at sbb.ch, costing half of the regular fare (in 2016 it cost CHF 11 Winterthur-St Gallen - I have an annual ZVV pass)

Sorry, but you also have PostBus (may be too slow for the OP) or you could fly (probably too expensive). Both are legal.

Not as common as it used to be, but still possible I suppose.

Are you using the word "legal" in a way I am not used to seeing it being used?

To contribute to the topic, check:
a) SBB supersaver tickets (with or without Halbtax)
b) blabla car - seems to be cheap AF: https://www.blablacar.co.uk/search?f...h-Saint+Gallen

PostBuses don't connect major cities, but provide feeder services from railway stations. But as for domestic flights, yeah, forgot about that.

What I mean is: no Long-distance bus company lets you book a domestic trip within Switzerland, but of course they can't force you to remain onboard, hence I always buy a Flixbus ticket Zurich-Lyon if going from Zurich to Lausanne, and a ticket Lausanne-Konstanz on the way back

Legal = allowed by law. For all the law cares, you can crawl from Zurich to St. Gallen. Of course Flixbus is not illegal either - whether respective tickets are avaialble or not is a different question. Lack of availability is not the same as illegality. If you exit the bus too early, it is in fact you doing something wrong, but Flixbus only if they actually let you. The fact that they're driving there isn't illegal. That's the same as buying a cheap plane ticket with a layover and never intending to take second flight of the journey. Not the airline that's making a mistake, let alone anything illegal - but you.

Re: Cheap transportfrom Zurich to St. Gallen

Sorry, you studied here at ZHdK or Konsi in Zürich and still can't find one of the many possibilities to find your way to St.Gallen?

That blows my mind.

Geneva-Zurich costs over 80chf from SBB, but Geneva-Munich costs only 39eur from DB, on the same train (plus a bus from Zurich to Munich that you don't have to take)

Well, if you buy it in advance it's CHF 42 (but a spontaneous ticket costs CHF 84, yes).

However, Flixbus costs EUR 17 Zurich-Lyon, and EUR 13 Lausanne-Konstanz. This bus also serves Bern and Geneva (slight price difference)

Re: Cheap transportfrom Zurich to St. Gallen

I believe car, motorcycle or scooter are very cheap.

You can get there with a gallon of gas or diesel.
