Vintage 1999, Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0L Type XJ, 190 HP. Granted, not exactly a racing goat but nice for our outings in northern Michigan with lots of camping & boating stuff plus at least one dog.
She's a plain honest car without bells and whistles, and I'll keep her until she falls apart for good.

I used to borrow one of these on a regular basis.
Large 4-pot diesels are the very definition of rough running - horrendously noisy thing - especially when starting (worse than a 2.2 Nissan X-Trail). It was mated to a prehistoric automatic gearbox and it was about as far removed from a Range Rover as you could possibly get. However - it was absolutely brilliant. It didn't try to be something it wasn't and didn't try to be overly "retro". It towed brilliantly, as you'd expect and was a car that delivered what it set out to.
Would I buy one?? Not a chance.
As for the Cherokee - the SJ and XJ are good (the latter especially with the 4.0 straight 6. Just watch for rust and general wear and tear on the suspension). The later cars lack the "soul" of the early cars - and the latest one in particular lacks any sort of ruggedness you'd expect from a Jeep.

By the way, sometimes she's called "Jeep" too. | Quote: | | | | | As for the Cherokee - the SJ and XJ are good (the latter especially with the 4.0 straight 6. Rust on the doors and front wheel suspension.

Couldn't agree more. Rust on the doors and front wheel suspension. | | | | | Well alright, I'll name her tentatively "Furry Muff" or "Carlos" you pick one, clear it with the other half and get back to me.

You can name her (the Jeep, that is) whatever you like when you come up north from KY to northern MI.

Does it do everything you want a car to do? | | | | | Yes, but never used it.
So wanted to know if any existing users are having any issues or happy with it.

| | Re: Jeep Cherokee users | Quote: | | | | | No, it's not.
The Renegade is based on the Panda platform, the Cherokee isn't. | | | | | Renegade is the same platform as the 500X, not anything to do with the Panda though as it's a bigger car. The current Cherokee is entirely Italian too in its basic design and platform. It started life as the Alfa Romeo Giulietta before being cost-reduced to become the Dodge Dart and then the aforementioned Cherokee. The engine is also from Fiat but is sold to other manufacturers as many don't build their own diesels anymore. The gearbox will be an off-the-shelf item though, I don't remember the supplier but I don't expect it's Italian.
As for the car itself, it's too new to really comment on reliability. If you like it and the price is right then there's no reason not to buy. Similar stuff to compare would be the Nissan X-trail, Ford Kuga, Toyota Rav-4, Honda CRV and maybe Seat Ateca (a little smaller).
Personally, I find the Jeep ghastly but that's just a personal opinion of the looks which you may like.

the Cherokee was my first company car my company imported one from the USA for bizzare reasons, it was a mk2 4.0 with the 3 speed auto, was like driving a barge, huge big leather sofa seats, top speed of 80mph but would wheel spin and go through all (3) gears while getting there, iirc I used to get 12 mpg out of it. first time I drove it I drove though a hedge into a field as it was just too big and heavy for UK country lanes, steering wheel may as well not have been connected to anything, weird power steering that was feather light whatever speed you where going, terrible in every sense of the word, but a lot of fun when you're 21 |

There is a reason for that though, the Outlander is a dreadful car and unless it was stupidly cheap nobody would buy it.
