| | Blue Zone parking availability
does anyone know whether there are specific rules about continuity of blue parking zones during construction? or, at least the amount of time they could be kept blocked due to such events?
i have been parking in the blue zone right in front of my place with my annual parking permit. however, recently, they have started construction in the street and placed a warning that the parking is not available anymore.
they have not pointed to another space in the vicinity. the closest blue zone in the same area code is about 1 km away, which feels like a bit too long a walk to the car for a person like myself who is protected by a thicker than average fatty tissue ;-) i have contacted dav-bewilligungsstelle, who for some reason replied that they cannot share this information and suggested to ask the local police, which sounded a bit weird. is there anyone who has had a similar experience, and feels like s/he could share the information?
cheers. |

As for the blue zone, they have no responsibility to provide them in exactly the same spot.

well, not in the same spot, but it feels like someone must have come up with a rule that there should be some parking spaces within a radius of an inhabited area. at least, they should have thought about the alternatively athletic people :P

Well, the city goes by a sort of "total spaces in the city" rationale, hands out more parking cards than there are spaces and has reduced the available parking spaces overall (at least according to some report that I read, I forget where), soooo... time to buy some comfy shoes |

An open space can cost anywhere between CHF 150 and 200 per month or a garaged space can cost more.
It's more than you are paying now but at least you've got a guaranteed spot.

well, having to walk a few hundred meters would mean one has to dress for the public and the weather, too. and i miss my 'giulietta' when it is parked too far away
i am not built for the thrill of public transportation as well. trying to catch the next bus/tram/train with each connection is too much of pressure for me. i think, if the zombie apocalypse comes, it looks like i will be gone within the first few hours of it, and not even get to see how the civilization falls apart and experience 'the walking dead'.
anyways, thanks for the answers and suggestions. i guess, i'll stick with parking at the closest blue zone and walk home, and feel like i am exercising when my phone says i did reach my target steps per day |

well, after a couple of weeks' walking, i decided to send an email to the contact address at the gemeinde. one week, no sound. then i receive an email from gemeinde containing a forwarded email from the city traffic department telling that they will place some blue spaces in the region, and they did this week, just a couple of hundred meters away.
such nice people.
... then i received my first provisional tax bill... didn't recover from the shock yet ;-)

I believe in Zurich they reduced the blue zone ticket cost for a couple of years due to statistical under-availability of spaces in previous years. So there are some controls, but it's little consolation when they move into your area for weeks and take over 80% of the spaces with skips and machinery.
