Residents Permit on UK Plates

Howdy,
need some advice - over the next few months I'll be driving a few times to/from the UK as I move my stuff down, no issues there

While I'm in Zurich, I need to park... well, somewhere. Ideally near Altstetten, but really, I don't care where as long as I get then get to the car... and it doesn't cost a fortune.

Cue the resident's parking permit, seems ideal... but from the website(1) where you request it, they ask for a license plate (no issues putting a British plate in there), and then some number from what looks like the Swiss registration document.

That there does not appear to be a workaround for.

Does anyone have any ideas what the process to get a residents permit on foreigh plates? The car's not going to be in Switzerland more than 3 months (insurance limitations), and it's RHD, so importing it isn't something I want to do... I'll be bringing it back to the UK and reselling it there before three months are up.

Thanks!
M.

Re: Residents Permit on UK Plates

You can not order it online w/o a canton Zurich plate.

You have to fill in the PDF-Form and send it either by traditional mail (mailboxes are yellow and not red like home) or go to counter at Mühlegasse 18/22, where you can pay and get the card on the spot.

Important: To get a residence permit you need to be registred.

Re: Residents Permit on UK Plates

Thanks!

What do you mean by registered? I have a residence permit now (the process was entertaining...), so that's sorted.

I also have a piece of paper for some iodine tablets which I'll go and exchange at some point...

So far:
Bank account
Residence permit
Apartment
(some) furniture
Phone/TV/Internet (ordered... pending receipt)

It's all coming together... no idea how, but it is!
M.

(edit: for now I got a few 1-day permits... not cost effective, but I reckon still cheaper than paying a fine! These work online)

That. For the future, every time you move you have to deregister at your old commune and register at the new commune. If you move inside the commune you also have to notice the commune of change of address. If you move aboard do not forget the deregister part, as you will have to pay taxes and health insurance as long as you are registered as a resident.

If you move two houses up the street you have to tell the commune. I am not kidding.

And if you do not within 14 days you can get fined. I know a case where a guy moved out from his mothers nest into his own flat across the street. Did not inform the commune. The most stupid mistake was that when he finally notified the commune he himself admitted that he missed the deadline by 6 months.

PS: Also do not forget to notify bank, insurances, Billag, car registration place, and many more when you move.

Naaaa, not at all.
Hey, you did pretty well within a short time from "I don't know how to register/find a place etc. to where can I get a parkcard! Not even all the Swiss know about the parkcard. Concrats and welcome to Zurich.

Re: Residents Permit on UK Plates

There were always some white box free parking in Hermetschloostrasse 8048 Zurich . I often used to leave cars there, not lived in the area for 30 months so it may have changed.
