Temporarily moving out of country with my car

Hey there,

I'm temporarily moving out of Switzerland for 6 months with my car. I was wondering if there is any way to get all the mail regarding my car (if I am to receive any fines, taxes, or information from the government) to my address out of country?

Thanks!

I dont think so, also as after 6 months your permit expires? Do you plan to deregister?

I will still have an address in Switzerland and my permit will still be valid. I'd just like to know if there is a way to receive all my car related mail (the OCN mail etc..) internationally in case I have to pay any fees I might have to pay ASAP.

Re: Temporarily moving out of country with my car

You can have your mail (all of it) forwarded by the Post Office.

https://www.post.ch/en/private/recei...ary-forwarding

You do know that if you're out of Switzerland for more than 6 months your permit will become invalid.

"Section 2: Expiry and Revocation of Permits

Art. 61 Expiry of permits

1 A permit expires:
a. on notice of departure abroad;
b. on the grant of a permit in another canton;
c. on the expiry of the term of validity of the permit;
d. on expulsion in terms of Article 68.2

If a foreign national leaves Switzerland without giving notice of departure, a short stay permit expires after three months, and a residence or permanent residence permit (expires) after six months"

Doesn't matter how long it says it still has on it.

You can have the post forward your mail but that would get expensive. about 50CHF/month for Ausland.

The easiest solution is to ask a neighbour to look through your post, and have them forward anything that looks official. You could either give them a key to your postbox/apt, or have the post forward everything to them. Give them a bunch of stamps and large preaddressed envelopes.

On the off chance that something registered comes while you are away then you'd best also give them a Vollmacht 30CHF, one time charge.

If you quote the law, then please fully and not just part of it:

Art. 61 Abs 2 Foreign nationals Act https://www.admin.ch/opc/en/classifi...index.html#a61
If a foreign national leaves Switzerland without giving notice of departure, a short stay permit expires after three months, and a residence or permanent residence permit after six months. On request, a permanent residence permit may remain valid for a further four years.

Only relevant if the OP has a C permit, but yes I should have put that in.
