How to pay fine

Hello folks out there,

I am looking for some information about how to pay court fine for traffic fines, I recieved a judgement from Ministre Public de l'arrondissement de l'est vaudois with fine amount but no payment slip (red/orange slip) to pay.

I was looking at forums and website of government, did not find any information on how to pay, neither in the judgment copy what I recieved.

Can someone please let me know if you are aware on how to pay.

for now, I have only one letter from court (I am anticipating driving ban, do you know if I will recieve another letter, if yes normally within how many days)?

Thanks a ton in advance for your help.

Cheers,

Re: How to pay fine

Normally there should be a payment slip. Look if there is any payment date stated. If it is still far away just wait a few days. If it is in two weeks or less call the court and request a payment slip.

The driving ban will be handed out by the SAN. It can take a few days, some weeks, maybe two months. There will be another payment slip for this.

Thank you @aSwissInTheUS - I do not have any date in the judgement and no payment slip, judgement says Immediate payment, so bit worried.

This is the part of judgment:

Re: How to pay fine

I think this is just the judgement. There's probably another bunch of bureaucrats responsible for collecting the money and they'll be sending you the payment slip (and I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't add their own %% to the fees for collection). It may also be that you have a certain time limit in which to contest the judgement and they won't collect until that time limit has expired.
If there's no indication about how you should pay in the paperwork you received, you probably just need to start filling the piggy bank in preparation.

Re: How to pay fine

What you just received is the 'judgement' for your traffic offense... details of your offense should be noted in the letter and that such an offense comes with a fine of CHF 400 in your case. You are given 10 days (I think) to contest.

If your traffic offense involves a driving ban, then you will receive a letter from the Traffic Department or StVA (in a few weeks time) telling you to surrender your license. Once the driving ban is completed, you will receive your license back and will need to pay a storage fee of CHF 360.

In the meantime, your 'judgement' papers will move through Swiss bureaucracy (slow but SURE) until it reaches the Collection Department. For all the troubles that you gave them, they will charge you around CHF 800 admin fee. So in a few months time, you will receive another letter, this time with a payment slip for CHF 1200 (fine + admin).

As the other members suggested, fill-up that piggy bank.

The fine is CHF 420
Court fee is CHF 400
plus a suspended monetary sentence of 30 days.

You should get a payment slip for CHF 820.
And expect a driving ban for at least 3 months. Call yourself lucky if it is less than that.

No harm by calling the court and ask when you can expect the bill with a slip.

PS: Out of interest and as reference for future cases. What was it what you did? And can you please report how long the ban is once you receive it. Thank you so much.

Thank you @aSwissInTheUS

The offence was about driving without License (after I failed driving test to convert my foriegn driving license), I know I was stupid and arrogant to still drive couple of times!

I think I can expect minimum 6 months ban for this offence
I will update the ban duration once I have the letter from SAN

Thank you @maypril

I hope I will not get additional 800 CHF, I have 420+400 CHF as fine in the judgment already.

I start to fill-up piggy bank now!!

Re: How to pay fine

My french is crap...

@aSwissInTheUS is correct: CHF 420 (fine) + CHF 400 (court fee)

Note that you have a suspended monetary sentence of CHF 70 x 30 = CHF 2100. If you behave for the next 2 years, then this suspended sentence will be forgotten. If not, the hammer will drop and this will go on top of what you need to pay on your next offense.

I always wondered, is this just for traffic offences in the next 2 years or for anything?

Na, only an additional ~CHF 300 to 400 for the joy of getting your "license revoked". (In Canton Zurich it is CHF 360 for up to 6 months)
If you do not have a license they will put you on a black list, and you can not apply for a learners permit during this time. Same price.

I dont get that part, the "monetary sentence", can you just go there an pay the 2100? I guess would be easier, or you get it back?

Anyway, could been worse, driving without a drivers licence I think in UK you can even go to jail...

As long as you are a good girl or boy in the next two years (do not have a criminal charge that goes to the judge) you do not have to pay the monetary sentence part.

In Switzerland you can go to jail as well. But as jail is expensive we came up with monetary sentences for anything bellow one year of jail. And because we are so nice and believe in the good of people we even hand them out on probation.

I don't know the answer to this.

My assumption is: the hammer will drop if the OP commits a similar (or even worse) traffic offense. So, your regular parking fine or +1kph over-speeding should not be an issue.

Now, if non-traffic offense comes into play, that I don't know.

Reading all these possible cases makes me wonder how complicated would it be to be a lawyer in Switzerland xD

Since the OP does not have a valid driving license, YES he will be in deep do-do if he gets behind the wheel before he passes the CH driving test. And that can't be done until he sits out his license suspension.
