I only received a warning and have to be careful driving for 1year.
You'd save money if you were to drive carefully for longer than just a year.

Specially as the warning is normally for two years

Received my fine of about 650chf. Was travelling 33kms over the speed limit. Minus the 6kms so i was at 27kms over.

I only received a warning and have to be careful driving for 1year.
Just for refernce and out of interest: How much of the CHF 640 is actually fine and what part is fees ?

Re: Caught doing 140 or 150km in 100km zone autobahn

According to the attached PDF, CHF 400 is the fine and CHF 250 is costs.

The PDF (in French only) gives you ALL of the fines and details on the legal implications (minor/major criminal offence - Via Secura mandated), the minimum license suspension (if one) etc. It is relatively easy to follow even without some French.

To help you read it. The table in divided (see left side) into 4 sections: 30 km zones, 50 km zones (in town), 80 km zones (out of town) and auto-route (100 or 120km). You read across for the net number of km over the limit. Then you have the details of what the fine will be. They use a system of lighter to darker shading of the boxes as you increase in speed, fines and legal implications. The individual dark coloured boxes on the right are for the worst cases of speeding.

Keep in mind, the number of km that they take off the speed they clocked you at (to arrive at the net number) will depend on the equipment being used. The least number of km is taken off with the new laser pointed radar systems.

P.S. They note that these fines etc. are based on you not having any previous issues (within whatever time period was set). In other words, these are the best case fines and punishments.

From my (unfortunate) experience, the fee was something like $200 in canton ZH. Beware of the Brüttiseller Kreuz!

According your PDF the fine would be CHF 400 and the fee CHF 240.
Which is mor akin to what I know. A court fee of just CHF 50 would so not TIS.

Thanks for that. I was looking at the line above (the 80km zone line).

I pass by there regularly. How did you manage to get blitzed? Was it a mobile one?

Depends where you come from. For example from Uster to Zurich you should slow down to 60. And still then, even with the Blitzkasten, some people still manage to over speed and scratch their cars in the bend.

There is one on an onramp by the Mediamarkt, iirc.

Re: Caught doing 140 or 150km in 100km zone autobahn

Yeah, a couple weeks back I was getting to the turn and as I was approaching slowing down from 80+ I think to myself "they put a camera here".

I touch the brake and the flash hits me.

The bill for 180 came just yesterday. Consider myself lucky and really bummed out that I broke my long streak of 9+ months with no tickets (not even one for parking)...

It was right by the speed limit sign in the bend (one of the loops in that crazy cloverish interchange)!

The crazy thing is that the speed limit sign is in the bend. You have to know the area, that this is one of the loops, AND that the speed changes so much. I didn't see the speed limit sign off the highway...or I missed the first one, and got blitzed at the second one. I haven't been through there yet to confirm my suspicion - although I did write in my letter of explanation why I was going too fast. If it's a money making scheme like the one in Baden I know about, no amount of explaining will do, they'll milk the travellers/accidental passers-through for all they are worth and then some. . Unfortunately, it is quite dangerous if a person who doesn't know the area goes at normal highway speed, and all of a sudden the loop is upon them.

Sounds contradictory.
You could try: "I know these loops, I can handle them at high speed by now"?

Re: Caught doing 140 or 150km in 100km zone autobahn

i rarely feel the need to speed in CH (on main roads and in built up areas at least) but i still hate the concept of speed cameras. the sudden over-reaction by other people is annoying and dangerous. was about to think i'm glad there aren't many in ticino but then i remembered reading somewhere they are installing loads on the A2 this month. anyone have info on that?

at least i can continue to relax in italy (the land of motoring freedom)

the rest of switzerland seems to be littered with cameras on the motorways. personally i don't understand why the vingette is so cheap. the roads are packed with germans transiting to italy all summer - the least they could do is pay more than 40 chfs for the privilege.

they also need a TI / IT plate only lane at the chiasso border....

The money making scheme in Baden/Ennetbaden/Wettingen (I don't know to which it belongs) isn't a speed thing, but a schedule one. If you are unfamiliar with the off-hours/days of that road, you are still forced to use it because you are stuck in the twirly intersection where you aren't allowed to change lanes as soon as you read the tiny print of the sign where you find out the road is not to be used at that hour/day. The flashing light doesn't work all the time, and voila! you have to fork over CHF100 for using the road during "quiet times".

From Uster to Zürich, you first have a 100 sign then an 80 sign and then last the 60 sign. I admit the signs are close to one another but missing all 3 signs??

I was "only" going about 20 over when I got flashed. Nearly missed the exist all together. However I didn't expect that curve to be so tight. Only a bruised ego and bank acct, otherwise, fine.
