Second hand bike market

Hello all

I want to buy a bike for me. However, Buying a new one with good features is quite expensive. Is there some market in Zurich or near areas where one can buy second hand bikes?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Second hand bike market

There's often a lot of old rubbish at the velo markets.
Take someone along who knows about bikes or buy one new from a diy store.

As always, you get what you pay for.

I agree on the rubbish at the market, but I disagree on the DIY store bikes... there's a reason why they are cheap. Buying a well kept five year old used bike with quality components is the best bang for the buck approach. I should know, I worked in the bike department of my local diy store as a kid...

Re: Second hand bike market

Depending on what you want I find it's best to order online from the UK/Germany or wherever. Delivery can be expensive but the bikes are miles cheaper spec-for-spec.

Look at wiggle.co.uk and evanscycles.co.uk for decent and reasonably prices stuff, I don't know your budget or what you want to do with it but either is better than a bike from Bau und Hobby or similar. Both have own-brands which are worth looking at (Wiggle and Verenti, Pinnacle) for great value for money.

You will have to pay customs on arrival, but local VAT is removed from the price. Most stuff at a Velobourse is knackered and/or overpriced.

http://www.wiggle.co.uk/verenti-division-2-2016/

There are a couple of examples, customs duty and handling is normally about 20CHF plus 10% and you can order all the accessories at the same time as the bike (lights etc).

Re: Second hand bike market

I've bought a couple of 2nd hand bikes... best deals I've got were from ricardo.ch. Bikes are normally advertised as 'abholung durch käufer', the ads located in/around Zürich (or any big city) tend to get a lot of interest. If transport is not an issue for you, you will get excellent deals if you go for bikes out in the sticks.

On the other hand, I've been to one of these Velobörse in Zürich, more for the experience though, went in with 'only' CHF250 on hand. Like any 'real' bidding environment, people tend to get emotional and overbid in the process. Yes we all have different tastes, but IMO, 90% of the bikes went CHF150++ more than it would if it were on ricardo. Well, the price you pay for being able to 'try out' the bike before bidding and cycling home with your catch after.

Re: Second hand bike market

There is a second hand bike Market in Thoiry (15 km away from Geneva) next sunday april 22, starting at 10:00 am in the center of the village. . There's also a weekly food market. I attach the advertisement.

As usual in these markets, most of the best deals are done in the first 30 min...

Re: Second hand bike market

I've been looking at folding ebikes that I can take on public transport and use when I get there. Thought first of Brompton but probably will get Gocycle GXi. Priced like a car, but then thinking of my age I can't take either the bike or the money with me... Would buy in UK and take to Switzerland. Lockdown would have to end first. I've been confined in my daughter's home since 6 March unable to go back to Switzerland.
