I seem to remember some Catch 22 with this. Something like, the full fine goes to the fine'ing country so the other country has all the cost but no return, which led to lack of actual support.
Yes, but if you get a ban in a neighboring country, the Swiss will also give you a ban, and charge you for the privilege!

Of course, it's a different country with its own procedures.

And the ban may last longer (or shorter) than the other country's. Applies to the other country as well of course but seems unlikely to actually happen.

For first time offenders the ban can only last as long as the other countries ban and also only during the other countries ban.

I got flashed in France on the A40 at the Annemasse exit on my way to Thonex. The fine was sent to me directly by the French authorities some 3-4 weeks later, with an incredible amount of paperwork, which looked more like a job-creation exercise than anything else. I wasn't speeding that much and the fine was something around 40 . I paid it online with my credit card, so relatively painless.

BUT.... some ch friends of ours came to visit last summer and used the Dartford crossing and ignored the toll 16 weeks later they received a letter here in perfect german asking them to pay the toll 2.50 or face a FPN of 70.00 - it cost them more to pay the toll via banking than the toll

Rep
Dont undersyand why. I had a letter once, exactly same in German. I just paid 2,50 by credit card and no any extra charge.

Don't talk top me about that Dart charge. I forgot to pay that 2.50 charge on Friday and this will now cost me 105 .
If you remember number plates of the rental car just call the dartford crossing and say you forgot, worst scenario you will pay 35 fine +2,5 for dart charge. Happened to me once, but my own car not rental. I called them more than a month later, they made me pay straight away by bank card.

I always carry enough cash for such eventualities. Tom
Lovely Slovenian police drove with me to an ATM at 2 AM as I didn't have enough cash with me. And they kept repeating how we foreigners are lucky because we only pay half the fine as long as it's done on the spot (no, they wouldn't agree to my "ok, then I'll be on my way and pay you the full fine later" proposal)

All proper - the fine on paper form with instructions where to complain, etc. It wasn't just the beer money for the coppers, they actually did the job for their government.

Hi Martin959, If you tend to get tickets in other countries, you will probably get them here too. To prepare for this, here are a few threads that might help.

how many speeding tickets do you get every year on an average

How much do you budget for traffic fines?

and of course

Serious Speeding - the law, the fines.

People who speed sometimes wind up going through red lights so, these threads might be of interest as well:

Caught running a red light

Red Light Jumping - 10 Day Frist

Excellent, 3Wishes! Thank you for compiling this list of related threads.
If it is not already, could your post 30 perhaps be made into a sticky?

Re: Speeding and other tickets from other countries being swiss resident

I tried that. Unfortunately PCN goes to hire car company only when generated at an unknown point in the next 3-4weeks and there is no option for me to pay the fine ahead of that. Hire car receive bill, go "Oh goodie, another one" and hit my pre-authorised credit card for 105.
