Just remembered FMF, I have 2 retired Senior cops in GE who could testify if your Lordship requires- and a few in Verbier too (are you still there, pretending you are in Malta?) and a Judge and senior policeman in Valais- if you so desire.

Exactly. Nobody knows what's going to happen so your initial post stating that of course things will change is just daft ( and that is what I believe people have an issue with, not the fact that you actually had to take the tests). Things may change or they may not but until we know exactly what is going to happen there is no of course about it.

Whatever happens I think it is very unlikely that things will be as they were in the1970s as an awful lot of things have changed since then.

That is ridiculous! Why is it better with a 12 month old driving licence than a 11 month old driving licence?...

Hogwash. Recognition of a foreign driving license for conversion is mostly unilateral. See for example the U.S. where all driving related things are state mater. On the other hand U.S. states are forbidden to enter any bilateral agreement with a foreign countries.

As you can see the VZV or as it called in French the OCN

does not list any countries.

But anyway, for all that matters you and other which converted from an U.K. license already have and still will have a Swiss license and driving privileges.

The Swiss provisional license is more akin to what is known in the U.K. as probation period.
It is also known as the "green L". Because before the propation period and provisional license was introduced, there was fear the such people must show a green L on the back. Like the French red A. But the green L never came.

So, basically when you swap your drivers licence you are on a provation / provisional one?

Do you need to do some course or something? I have the Spanish drivers licence, which is an EU one :rolleyes:

If you did your driving test less than 12 months before you moved to Switzerland then yes, you a are on probation and you get provisional one (the only distinction on license it self is that it has an expiration date.)

As said during the probation period you can have a BAC of max. 0.01%, should not have any major traffic infractions, and must do two approved (see https://2-phasen.ch/) driving courses before the license expires.
