Bus know how from Basel to St Louis?

Hello. I was wondering if anyone has taken the bus from Basel to St Louis? I would like to visit the market this weekend. Could someone advise on: (1) which bus stop to get off at in France, and (2) if I can buy tickets from the driver, or if I need to purchase in advance from somewhere in Basel?

I am a newbie (could you tell?!) and the bus website I found wasn't very clear in answering these Qs.

Thank you!

Re: Bus know how from Basel to St Louis?

Use the official transport website www.sbb.ch, it'll tell you the times prices and bus numbers you need. You can buy your ticket online, or probably through any ticket machine in Basel. (Online is better)

Take a look at this old event thread. There's some discussion on getting to the market by bus

Re: Bus know how from Basel to St Louis?

Ignore the posts above telling you to check the SBB website (wrong), to buy your tickets from a Basel machine (wrong) or to take the TER train (wrong).

Take the French "Distri" blue bus, number 604, from Schifflände. Pay the driver in Euros. Get off after about 20 minutes at the stop called "Carrefour" and walk about 2 minutes to the market.

If the weather is nice, take the tram 11 to the border station and walk all the way to the carrefour(through the customspoint Lysbychel), then on to the market.
Takes around 15 mins from the tramstop .

Did you go? The market's quite good now; during the winter there aren't so many stalls. The corner cafe right next to the market (just past it, if you walk to the market from "carrefour") does good value lunches, although it can be tricky to get a table.

Do you go there often? Carrefour St. Louis sells crumpets

Just realized how close to Basel that is ..... darn, could have taken a detour when I came back from Frankfurt.

I go to London every few weeks, so can stock up on British foods when there.

I usually cycle past the centre of St Louis and keep going to E.Leclerc. Geant Casino has been renovated recently and the prices lowered slightly (to complete with Leclerc) but Leclerc has a better instore bakery and fishmongers, and the latter two are the main reasons I shop in France.

Carrefour ... meaning crossroads has been the name of the bus stop in St Louis well before a small Carrefour City supermarket opened there, coincidentally.
