Lausanne to Geneva this Thursday evening???

Hi- advice would be very welcome from those who live in the area. I have to pick up guests arriving at GVA this Thursday at 9pm. With the Paleo starting tonight in Nyon - will the MWay be at a standstill? I shall allow plenty of extra time- and will be around Nyon circa 7.15 pm and then stop at La Côte MWay station for a coffee if time. Thanks.

It would be really good if they took the train to Lausanne.

Re: Lausanne to Geneva this Thursday evening???

just looked at timetable - no direct train after 20.00 ??? Is something going on with trains or is that always the case. I've never had to change to go to Yverdon-les-Bains

Re: Lausanne to Geneva this Thursday evening???

Paleo is indeed a problem around the rush hour time, plus aggravated by traffic modifications, I. E. Only one transit lane on A1 and down to 100 kph (marked).

All I can advise if you have to drive is that the later the better. Nyon village and nearby roads can actually be a ghost town around 9pm when all the masses are at the venue. Returns to chaos is the late evening/ early next day hours.

If it happens to rain heavily before or at that time, double the warning.

I avoid it like the plague and try to take vacation around that time, unfortunately did not work out this year.

Re: Lausanne to Geneva this Thursday evening???

Look again,
Using the CFF app I see trains from the airport at 2002 05 20 32; 2102 20 33 50; 2220 47; 2309 39.

Some require changes at Geneva or Morges, usually across the platform. Some even stop in Yverdon!

Edited to add. These are trains ftom the airport to Lausanne. The 2205 is the last 'direct' train to Yverdon.

Re: Lausanne to Geneva this Thursday evening???

Seems all trains after that time do require a change in Lausanne if going to yverdon.

Depending on where you are going in Gva, nyon>gva is generally about 20 minutes if no major traffic issues, so if you push your time to 8pm or later to pass Nyon you should be ok I think. But every day it's a bit hit or miss.

Re: Lausanne to Geneva this Thursday evening???

At 1825, and at 1900, on the first day, usually the worst, the A1 is flowing freely in both directions.

Re: Lausanne to Geneva this Thursday evening???

Thanks all- we do the journey and also the airport pick up all the time - could do it with my eyes closed but never during Paleo- hence the question.

Guests are older and with knee problem, so would never expect them to take non direct train, especially with luggage, and would not expect them to wait a long time for the train either- as we then have to travel onwards over the Jura. Happy to pick up at Lausanne or Yverdon- but it has to be direct.

Re: Lausanne to Geneva this Thursday evening???

This evening the NB A1 flowed fairly normally 1km before the Nyon exit. More difficult to know how the southbound managed, as the bouchons form around the Gland exit. However traffic can't exit at Nyon SB so once you are past Gland it should be smooth sailing.

Re: Lausanne to Geneva this Thursday evening???

What a difference a day makes ... 1730 on Wed and A1 direction Nyon just crawling along. Inside (non-transit) lane hasn't moved in 5 minutes.

Don't know about the other direction as problems would be at Gland. At Nyon it is flowing.

Edited to add: At 1820 transit lane flowing at (I'm guessing) 80kph. Paleo lane moving intermittently.

Now 1930, both lanes appear to be moving smoothly.

Can you see the motorway from your home or are you passing by?

Yes, from my kitchen window. They did me a favour by cutting the wheat this week, otherwise, nothing.
