| | Re: easyjet cancelled flight & refuse to compensate | Quote: | | | | | Last Thursday evening I received an SMS telling me that my wife and my flight to Venice the following day was cancelled due to strike action by Marco Polo baggage handlers and Italian ATC.
So I asked, online, for a refund for my flight.
After discussions with my wife, we decided to get the train, so on my way home from work, I went into the travel centre at SBB and bought two single tickets to Venice for the following day. For rather more than the cost of our flights.
I took a photo of the tickets + receipt and uploaded it to the form EasyJet give for expenses.
I received notifcation today that EasyJet were refunding the money I'd paid for the tickets + luggage, and were paying us for the additional cost of travel.
As a result, our only disadvantage was that the journey to Venice took us a a few hour s longer than we planned. All very easy and quickly resolved. when it wasn't even their fault. | | | | | It's happened again!
Thanks to French ATC my flight home (with 3 other family members) last week was cancelled. THere were no Easyjet flights with available space until3 days later. We got a flight on Swiss to Zürich and then train to Basel. We had to have an extra overnight stay and a meal in the UK. I was almost 3000CHF out of pocket.
EasyJet have refunded all my expenses. All of them. Even though we booked the flights and accomodation ourselves rathering than waiting for EasyJet to do it - and they say if you do it yourself you'll get zip.
I really don't understand why some people have such a struggle and others do not.

Perhaps it is because of people like me that previously made the effort to fight them with CEDR that have helped make it easier for people nowadays.
Also, Easyjet can probably claim back your compensation from a third party. The French!
In my case it was Easyjet that caused the problem and they had to pay from their own pocket - so they fight harder.
Possibly?
Anyway - I am am happy you did not have to go through all the hassle that I had to. | Quote: | | | | | It's happened again!

I honestly don't know.
I flew back from Man to Basel on Tuesday night, and after a 20 min delay for refuelling, the pilot announced that we'd missed our slot and had been allocated a new departure slot of 1.5hrs later. Huge groan from the packed flights, and rumblings of "but that means we'll land at 23.25!!!" The pilot immediately came back with "We've been instructed to depart now". Did someone in air traffic control realise that Basel Euroairport would be closed before everyone had left the building? | The following 2 users would like to thank Blueangel for this useful post:

Time to join the Easyjet-inspired rant...
Sister and husband were due to visit this weekend, flying from Bristol early tomorrow morning. BiL gets a text message this afternoon, informing him the flight is cancelled .
I checked their website and the cancellation is due to "late arrival of new aircraft to the fleet".
Wtf?
Effing amateurs.
Was looking forward to a great weekend with family.

We were supposed to be flying to UK this weekend and they cancelled the Sunday evening flight back. We could have moved to the earlier flight on Sunday, but it would have meant missing one of the main things we were flying back for.
Silver lining; we also need to fly back at the end of the month at shortish notice and the flights were going to be 300-350 CHF for each of us. Because of the cancellation, we just moved this weekend's flights to that one for no extra charge.

Airbus is likely covering the cost of your BiL’s compensation.

For those interested, I eventually obtained the EU flight cancellation standard payment from Easyjet in regard to the cancelled flight from Monday, 24th July 2017.

Likewise.
After winning the CEDR judgement (see earlier post) they eventually refunded my business class klm flight to Basel and the compensation.
Received the money via Swift into my swiss account at begining of May
I am using Eurowings to get to Manchester nowadays - Dussledorf is not too bad to spend a couple of hours and I get to Manchester at a sensible time. 23 KG luggage allowance and you can change the tickets for free - the sandwich is ok on both legs of the journey. | This user would like to thank jbrady for this useful post:

Some low cost carriers, particularly easyJet and Ryanair, class their return bookings as two separate tickets, so you need to cancel the cancel the return sector if you don't use the outbound as it stays 'live' in their system. Scheduled airlines, such as BA, Lufthansa, etc, automatically cancel the return if you don't use the outbound sector of the ticket.

I once had an Easyjet flight booked to Sharm El Sheik. Easyjet cancelled all their flights going that season from GVA. They refunded my flight. Unfortunately, my travel companion was flying Easyjet from LGW, same dates and destination of course. Because her flights weren't cancelled Easyjet wouldnt reimburse anything.
We made other plans and the money was lost.

Submit your claim directly to the airline first. Only if your claim is rejected should you consider using one of these companies.
One well known company that doesn’t fly to Switzerland refuses to deal with claim brokers at all, requiring the customer to deal directly. This is currently before the courts. (Of course)

I have another question about flight compensation.
I was delayed >4 hours going from Geneva to Miami (connecting flights) due to the cabin crew arriving late due to road traffic. I contacted American Airlines but the first response is that they reject the claim.
Anyone had experience in a situation like this? Seems to me like they should take reasonable planning to prevent this kind of delay.

No need for red bull

| | | | | They sometimes do but in my experience only if there are several (a lot of) people that need to catch that flight

So you find it fair to keep 200 people waiting for one or two people ?
Not to mention if the plane misses it's take off slot, they have to get another one and a landing slot.....
