| | easyjet cancelled flight & refuse to compensate
Hi,
few weeks ago we went to London from Geneva, it was Thursday evening flight. Upon arrival to airport, we saw all easyJet flights being cancelled (if I recall there were 4-5 of them). They didn't have any other flight to LDN that day, and for next 3 days all other flights were booked.
They gave us the option to either go somewhere else (not really great since we had other friends coming there for a gathering) or find another company. Easyjet helpdesk stated that price of single ticket shouldn't cross 300-400 CHF (it was weird that they didn't know exact limit, but it was midnight, everybody pissed off so we didn't push them too much).
Every single company flying from GVA was either fully booked or had few economy tickets for single GVA -> LDN flight from 600 CHF upwards, so we had to go via Zurich, meaning adding the cost of super-expensive swiss trains (which surprise surprise... got BROKE just before Bern. when people brag about quality of swiss trains, I laugh... they are just less horrible than most out there, but supremely overpriced).
Now easyjet sent us an email that because the cancellation was "due to weather" they don't have the need to compensate anything, not even our substitute flight. Of course that's a stupid excuse, all other companies left GVA airport safely and OK that night. Somebody mentioned to us that easyjet had some technical difficulties few weeks back, not sure if those are related.
We're using some 3rd party company to retrieve the money from easyJet, it will cost 50 CHF/ticket, effectively we will get 250 CHF max. They say this is quite standard easyJet behaviour.
Is this normal and can they really claim weather conditions as reason to not compensate?
So, be aware of them, you really get what you pay for in many cases. For us, easyjet only if absolutely the last possible option. Vacations are worth much more to us than few bucks saved on crappy unreliable aircraft carriers.

With cancelled/delayed flights, you won't receive compensation if the cancellation/delay was due to extraordinary circumstances for example due to bad weather. Where the cancellation/delay was due to extraordinary circumstances, you may not have the right to compensation, but the carrier must still offer you assistance (reimbursement or re-routing) and care (meals and/or accommodation) while you are waiting for alternative transport. | | | | | From here.

Unfortunately cancellation due to weather does not need to be the weather at your departure airport nor your destination.
If you don´t want to go through the bother, use a 3rd party, also as they are very experienced in working with reluctant airlines.

Can I please ask what date your flight was cancelled?
I had friends staying in our apartment whilst we were away, and their return flight from Basel to Manchester on Saturday, 8 July, was cancelled after they'd arrived at the airport. I found that Easyjet had cancelled 24 flights that day, and their plane had been cancelled in Manchester before flying to Basel and turning round for the return to Manchester. They were also told that it would be 4 days before Easyjet could get them back to Manchester.
My friends got a free hotel in Basel via the Easyjet app, rebooked on Lufthansa from Zurich to Manchester via Frankfurt at a cost of £700 for the pair of them, and were informed last Sunday that the full amount of their costs, including trains from Basel to Zurich airport and the Lufthansa flights, had been transfered to their account.

when easyjet left me stranded in scotland they did refund my train costs to london, food, flight to geneva and train back to zurich, they also blamed it on bad weather (snow at edinburgh airport) yet the plane managed to take off ok once they had unloaded us all. shitty airline.
that was on a sunday morning, next easyjet flight was going to be wednesday and that only had 2 spare seats at the time of cancellation, so no way in hell easyjet could possibly get a full flight of people back.

Submit your claim directly to the airline first. Only if your claim is rejected should you consider using one of these companies.
One well known company that doesn’t fly to Switzerland refuses to deal with claim brokers at all, requiring the customer to deal directly. This is currently before the courts. (Of course)

I have another question about flight compensation.
I was delayed >4 hours going from Geneva to Miami (connecting flights) due to the cabin crew arriving late due to road traffic. I contacted American Airlines but the first response is that they reject the claim.
Anyone had experience in a situation like this? Seems to me like they should take reasonable planning to prevent this kind of delay.

No need for red bull

It was all on the same ticket so it should be eligible for the claim.
Only question is if it counts as an extraordinary circumstance or not. I would say it doesn’t meet the definition of extraordinary circumstance. I’ll keep you updated with how it goes though, may need to go through a 3rd party company to help
