| | My car was hit in parking place, and I don't know who did it
I park my car on a public spot close to my apartment (there is no private parking in my place). One morning I found out that it was hit, the headlight's mounting support is broken, a dent and some scratches on the metal. It should be from a big car.
I bought the liability package for my car insurance which I understand that it is cover only the damage I made to the other one. Do you know if there is any hope that I can get some reimbursement from any kind of insurance?
Thank you very much for your advice.

Your premium will rise next year

In fact, that is pretty much the reason I got it, and have stayed with the same insurance company all this time. Someone vandalised my car, and it was fixed quickly and promptly without any adjustments to my premium.
I would also report the incident to the police, no matter which kind of insurance he has (it's for free, in case anyone is wondering... )

Report it to the police then claim on the Swiss National Guarantee Fund.
Beware, you will have to pay the first Fr 1'000 of the claim.
See here for info

Well they would, if the OP knew who to claim off, which is of course the problem... obviously he can't claim off his own for someone else's liability.

(well unless it is something like spoiling a coffee in somebody's else his/her car..)
I still don't see how they can be involved.

Hubby accidentally demolished a wall belonging to the commune when exiting a car park and it was the RC part of the insurance that covered the cost of repairs to the wall. The car insurance covered the damage to the car.

AXA for example:
3 The insurance does not cover the liability:
31 as owner and arising from the use of motor vehicles
and trailers of all type drawn by motor vehicles (subject
to A 6.1 and A 6.2); |

I'm not sure when that would ever be the case (legally), but potentially on private ground, or I guess you may not know the vehicle owner has no insurance.

But the most minimum a car insurance does is covering damage done to other cars in an accident, so if the other car is insured the RC does not have to pay for the damage done to OP, if the car is not insured they don't have to pay since it was illegal to drive the car anyway. If the car was insured but did not allow for other drivers it is yet again an illegal act.
I still don't see how an RC in this situation wil do anything.

Tom | | | | | Legally you need to have vehicle insurance, therfore the separate personal liability insurance shouldn't be relevant most of the time.
But you don't need insurance to have a vehicle on private ground (although maybe I'm wrong about that?). So if you caused damage in that situation, the liability insurance would pay.
The same if you drove someone else's vehicle and they lied and told you they had insurance; maybe the law would say you should have checked? But probably your liability insurance would pay for any third party damage caused.

If it has plates, it's insured.
